Hi, Where can I browse the 1871 census as I only seem to find results on here which doesn't allow page turns etc.

Hi Lorna,

Yes, I have just found it, thanks to Sue's information.

It is transcribed as Feran but I checked the actual image and it certainly looks like Foran to me.

Could not find your James on 1871 - can you give the reference please or tell me if his name was spelt differently on the census?

Interestingly, whilst looking, I did come accross these 2 girls in Liverpool Industrial School.

It looks as though they listed females seperately to boys so if you find that James is also in the Industrial Scool, they may be related?

Hi Susan, Thanks for that, I shall check that out too, the spelling could then have changed as he grew up as i have followed everything back to him, he also states his birth place as london on later census forms. I am not very good at reading the original transcrpits to see if there are errors! All help very much appreciated.

Thanks, I will try that now- from the help I got yesterday I have found that the family links back to this boy who must have come from Ireland somewhere between 1863-71 but he appears to be the only 'scholar' Foran on th elist so no siblings/clues as to the rest of his family!

Lorna...It was possibly West Derby Union Workhouse...you should have a "Sub Set" listed on the upper right hand side of the Census Page just keep clicking back on that it should take you to "First Entry" ....as an alternative ..Put in search for Christopher Trotter b.Durham...He was the Master there in 1871....

Please could someone advise as to how I can find which institution James Foran was in when the 1871 census was taken, the census states-
1871-Name James Foran Age 8 Estimated Year of Birth 1863 Relationship to Head of Household Scholar Occupation Scholar Address -- District West Derby, Toxteth Park Parish Administrative County Lancashire Birth Place -- Birth County Ireland

The page he is on is just the 'F' surname so it must be a huge place but no address or name, how can I find out what it was? Any help gratefully received.
