Can anybody tell me if there were any children born to Marriott Parkinson b 1873 Surrey & his wife Gil b 1877 in Scotland, on the 1911 Census there were no children listed only domestics.  I have found a birth of George Elliot M Parkinson Sep 1909 on Free BDM, (Elliot was Marriott's mothers maiden name) on the 1911 Census there is a record of a George Marriott Parkinson b London who was 13 months old and a visitor at an Apartment House - others listed were Domestics, Nurses and Visitors . Do you think that he is the same child?

I don't have any further information on his immediate family, he had a number of relations who were born in Yorkshire, so maybe thats an option.

Marriotts parents were ? Joseph charles Parkinson born 1834 died 1908 Strand London.married to Alice Ann born Sunderland, they also had Elliott Hardy Parkinson 1870.Died 1892

Maryb

Looking at original view of 1911 census it says they had one child born and one child living.
Also i think her name looks more like Lis or Liz

Again looking at oridinal view of 1911 census for George marriott Parkinson it definately is 18 months not 13,so if George Elliott Marriott Parkinson born 3/9/1909 then would be about 18 months on 1911 census .

Maryb

At one point George Elliott Marriott Parkinson esq lived at 5,Palace-Green Kensington

Marriott 1873 son of Joseph Charles Parkinson he was born Scarborough North yorks 1833
1841 censusin Scarborough Joseph born Scarborough 1816 Wine merchant.
Mary Ann 181 not born in county
Joseph charles 1833 says born in county.

Joseph and Mary Ann also christened Hannah in Scarborough 20/11/1835 and
Thomas Hardy Parkinson 15/5/1840.

You say George Elliott Marriott Parkinson had relatives in Yorkshire so could this be a connection

Hi Ginny!!
Lily was transcribed as "Gil" on the 1911 census. The handwriting was hard to read, but Maryb pointed out that it looked like Liz or Lis,so I wasn't too surprised when it ended up to be Lily.

Sure gives a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the wealthier classes!!

What a lot of work, everyone has done for me overnight!!, as some of you will know I live in Australia. My family defintely didn't end up with any money. His father was a writer, as his obiturary in the Times noted, he was a friend of Charles Dickens. Oh well, I suppose, I can only dream what might have been. Thanks Maureen, now I know why Marriott was not listed on a few Census, he was overseas. What it must have been to have money!!

MaureeninNY

MaureeninNY Report 2 Mar 2010 01:35

That's George's mother-Marriott's widow. She married that Gherardo/i Scalzi fellow.
