Jax, my eldest daughter is in her 30's with a toddler and another one due very soon, so she doesn't have much time for Facebook. My other two, in their 20's, post on it most days and I quite agree with you that it's mostly rubbish, but I like to look in now and again to nose at their photos, some of which are hilarious, although there's a lot of boring tongues sticking out, drunken group hugs and stuff, ha ha! I wouldn't touch the games - being on here takes up quite enough of my time when I should be doing other things!

I wish I hadnt bothered now marion, just get addicted to the games and reading the rubbish that my teenage daughters post.

Hi all

I expect some do think they will get an email, there would be a lot of email going about if it worked that way though.

I think people think they will get an email if someone replies. I have MS and thats how it work on that site if someone replies if they send a private message you dont get anything....strange that

Wendy, I think it's because people are expecting to receive an email alert from GR to let them know that someone has replied to them. Unfortunately, this doesn't happen. I know this because of the number of messages I receive expressing just that. Cx.

I have been helped quite a lot by kind folk on here since I joined just over a year ago and have always replied showing my appreciation. I get such a buzz when the replies come in and can't understand why anyone would post a query and then leave their computer for a long time. What's the point of posting when you can't wait for replies? I have to say, though, I have posted a couple of queries and got no replies at all. This made me despondent and I waited for about a week and then deleted the posts. Perhaps I shouldn't have done that, but if anyone did try to help but couldn't find anything, it would have been helpful if they'd put on a quick post to say so or perhaps suggest what else I could do.

Thanks Cynthia for those encouraging words and you are all appreciated!!

Patricia, you're doing just fine - you've just replied! It's preferred that you reply on the boards as some helpers aren't keen on private messages. Cx.

Hi Cynthia
I am only just getting to grips with the boards and still am not sure about replying although I reply using the purple button at the top left corner. Is this the way to do it or can I send a reply to each person separately because I would hate to be thought of as rude!
ps now you know why I use dizzymare!

I'm still laughing at one that was posted on Oct 2008, they did reply today as if it was yesterday lol.

It's hard to understand some folk isn't it?

I really feel for those who have absolutely no clue as to how things work, but when people don't reply to pms when it is so obviously easy to do, I am baffled and would dearly like to go back and ask why they haven't responded. Unfortunately, I would probably gain the reputation of being part of the 'board police' which I have seen mentioned occasionally.

Can't win can we?? Cx.

I scanned pages and pages of my tree, sent it to two different people who had request information about Deamers, absolutely no thanks from either, I reckon Deamer researchers will have to jump through hoops to get anything out of me from now on.....

I spent about two hours in a library looking for info for somebody. Only to be told 'oh yes I have that....grrrrr

It's not just on the threads there is sometimes no response from the poster.

I recently visited a remote ancient graveyard where I photographed headstones of people with unusual surnames and then offered to send the information to folk on GR who were researching that name.

I sent photographs of a headstone to one person who requested the information offered ..... no response or acknowledgement ... let alone thanks.

The other I sent a transcription of the headstone ... with the offer of the photographs ..... am still waiting for a response although I know the person opened the pm.

Don't think I'll be stravaigin round graveyards again.

Actually, I am tempted to start deleting - clicking on my threads, have found one going back in time a few years with only my response and nothing else! :-)
