Your welcome.

Sorry i couldnt help further.

Just for reference, Australian newspapers are also good way to search for family here, and a great source for imformation. ( Marriages, Deaths, Funerals, Cemeteries, ect,ect..."Click" on "South Australia" and add given and surnames into search box ( top right hand side of page )

Hi Janet.

I cant help much with South Australian records, a i am limited with bdm's for this state. ( Australian records ie: bdm's are listed by States and Territories )

Marriages up to 1937
Birth up to 1929
Deaths up to 1915

Australian Census do not exist for the general public to view in Aus..
We do however have Electorol rolls......which can be normally checked on Ancestry au.

However if no one esle can help further, "Kerri" on this board does look ups for South Australia and may be able to assist ?
I notice she can check deaths up to 1972 for South Australia

There are 2 people who have Mona Thiele on their trees on here m its not a common name and the birth place given, Cummins, ties in with the area given

I shall send messages to see if they respond as well

Thank you

Astra posted details of this earlier and has been kind enough to send me the image of the outgoing document

Seems it took them a whole month to get to Aus

F P (wonder what the P stands for as its not on his birth record here

Thanks for what you have found me so far. Am assuming that one of the boys had a family, as there was recollection of a son who was in the Air Force in WW2

The Adelaide connection fits with the history I have been given

Hi Janet.

Regarding B.T.Power.

Australian Service Record
Name POWER, THOMAS BERT
Service Australian Army
Service Number SX38656 (S114852)
Date of Birth 18 Jan 1911
Place of Birth LONDON, ENGLAND
Date of Enlistment 7 Dec 1944
Locality on Enlistment PADDINGTON, SA
Place of Enlistment KALINGA, QLD
Next of Kin POWER, MONA
Date of Discharge 23 Oct 1947
Rank Sapper
Posting at Discharge RAE 4 MD
WW2 Honours and Gallantry None for display
Prisoner of War No

Going by the "Next of Kin" Mona Power..is possible a spouse.
As he enlisted in S.A ( South Australia ), its possible, and may be an indication where the family settled.
Looking at the "Digger Index" for marriages in the state of South Australia we find.

Groom: POWER
Given names: Bert Thomas
Bride: THIELE
Given names: Mona Eileen
Date: 1931-07-20
Groom Age: 20
Status: S
Groom's Father: Thomas Charles POWER
Bride Age: 18
Status: S
Bride's Father: Osmond Carlton THIELE
Place: Registry Office Adelaide
District: Ade
Symbol:
Book/Page: 328/155
Cross Reference:

Cant see a service record for a Frank POWER, but he may not have enlisted in the Aussie forces.

Cant see a marriage for him in South Australia...but can only check up to 1937 for this state. He may have also settled in another state in Aus.?
Will check through what Index's i have.

Astra

Astra Report 25 Jun 2011 17:34

We seem to have crossed posts!
I have searched the Australian Electoral Rolls on Ancestry but I can't pinpoint the family.

The travel information is from Find My Past passenger lists.

Janet Report 25 Jun 2011 17:21

Janet

Janet Report 25 Jun 2011 17:07

sorry been away having some lunch

Yep that's them !!

40/42 Harrow Road was the family home and was written in the letter I received from the 90 year old family member so must be correct. They also ran the brush making business from there.

She also said that a grandson came to the UK in the Air Force in WW2 but she can't remember his name unfortunately.

is there a way you could send me the image you have found if I send you my email address ?

Thanks ever so for the help

would be nice to track some living rellies in Aus too

It looks as though Master F could be Frank

Births Mar 1912 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Power Frank Russell W.Ham 4a 697

Did they have another son in 1923 called Stanley who died the same year?

Astra

Astra Report 25 Jun 2011 16:14

This could be the family travelling out

Name: Mr T C POWER
Date of departure: 28 March 1924
Port of departure: London
Passenger destination port: Sydney, Australia
Passenger destination: Sydney, Australia

Date of Birth: 1889 (calculated from age)
Age: 35
Marital status: Married
Sex: Male
Occupation: Carpenter
Passenger recorded on: Page 8 of 27

The following people with the same last name travelled on this voyage: -

Master B T POWER Page 8 of 27>>>DOB 1911
Master F POWER Page 8 of 27 >>>>DOB 1912
Mrs M POWER Page 8 of 27 >>>DOB 1891
Mrs M K POWER Page 18 of 27 >>>DOB 1889

Looking at the original image there is no MK Power with the family group so it could just be someone unrelated with the same surname.
The family were living at 42 Harrow Road Leytonstone before leaving.
