SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 17 Mar 2010 19:58

was it Joseph Coe who was born 6 Nov 1884

or was it Edith Maud?

If not, when was Edith Maud born? And where?

How do you know that these are the parents of Edith Maud?

Risbridge seems to be on the Suffolk /Cambridge borders

But nicky

I'm reading the header message as the dob of birth being for Joseph Syer Coe because of its placing after the statement that he ahd not found the marriage or on census

he is the father of edith maud coe/dearsley and the mother is Elizabeth Dearsley.
havent found a marriage for them or on the census
dob 6/nov/1884

That's why I asked for clarification

or am I just being stupid??

Nickydownsouth Report 17 Mar 2010 20:36

No Sylvia...certainly not stupid......I just put Ediths Mauds birth reference to clarify that it seems Paul meant Edith Mauds DOB was Novemebr 1884 and not Joseph Syer Coe...

Yes your correct he is looking for info on Joseph Syer Coe.. { I can`t find him on freeBMD between 1837 and 1930!!}

Just thought if we worked with what we do know it can sometimes lead to the missing people...... can`t find elizabeth dearsley either...Think your 1891 census entry is the correct Edith Maud

I have the 1881 here...but no sign of Eizabeth...

i am so sorry for not having laid it out better, hope the following helps

ok edith maud is my mother in laws grandmother. i was looking for her under the name of dearsley, however it turns out from the copy of her birth certificate that the mother was Elizabeth coe formally dearsley. after her birth there is no record of edith maud coe only edith maud dearsley.
joseph syer coe is the father mention on the birth cert.
i can find no record of marriage for coe and dearsley
Elizabeth did go on to marry arthur william webb

Nicky,

what do you think of my theory with Josiah? Joseph Syer is soooo close to Josiah don't you think??

BatMansDaughter Report 18 Mar 2010 13:37

Thanks Maureen.

I suppose Paul will never know for sure, but at least now he was a possible theory?

I wonder if the father paid a maintenance for Edith? Seems strange that he would be named on the birth cert and yet plays no sign of her upbringing?

Dee x

Nickydownsouth

Nickydownsouth Report 18 Mar 2010 13:43

Hi Dee and Maureen........Pretty sure your on the right track with Josiah/Joseph Syer, which is why I put up the marriage to Anne in 1885.

If you put just Joseph Syer in to freebmd with no surname you only get about 6 results....with none of the surnames remotely like Coe.........so think its just been written wrong for the birth cert. Wonder why they said they were married? if as it seems ,they wern`t, the fact Josiah married a year later, and Elizabeth not long after proves neither of them was widowed, and divorce very unlikely.....

Nicky

BatMansDaughter

BatMansDaughter Report 18 Mar 2010 13:46

Hi Nicky,

I can't understand why they never married either, maybe the Coe side wanted him to marry Anne, but then surely Elizabeths father would have had a say there???

Very strange...... that's why I wondered if there might be a maintenance order against Josiah?
