Zoe

This is what we always say, order the cert and then you have something definate to go backwards with....

There is a danger of guesswork that gets you in a completely wrong direction.

I have found a few family trees with an Elsie English born 9 Sep 1905 in New Tredegar, Monmouthshire, Wales

Obviously it is somebody else's tree and i can't be certain.. but it is in Wales!!

AoGG

Doesn't stop people from moving and marrying!!

Maybe the wife came from that way!

Maybe they used a registry office and not a church?

Hi Zoe

To avoid the big mistake of guesswork you would need to order the marriage cert, you can then move backwards with some knowledge of accuracy!

From what I have been told, Elsie English was born c1905, so she would have been roughly 6 years old in 1911.. I think she was probably born in Wales too, somewhere.. My geography is fairly bad!

Hi, Thanks for all the help.. I'm sorry if i caused any arguments!!
I'm not really too sure of who he was as he is my partner's great grandfather and his grandfather died a few years ago so I can't find anymore facts out.
I do know that he went on to marry a woman named Elsie English and they had 6 children.
I really appreciate the help as you have given me a starting point.. Thanks again!

I understand that bit, all i am implying is she thought they were from Dinas powys when they were from a little further away....

Happens all the time on census data!!!

oooooh AoGG

I'm sailing very close to the wind, i'll not take much thumping tonight.... lol.

Even Wikipedia says Dinas Powys, Glamorgan??

Principal area Vale of Glamorgan
Ceremonial county South Glamorgan
Country Wales
Sovereign state United Kingdom

Google states Maesteg to Dinas Powys is less than 30 miles..... so what was wrong with my find??
