My grandad Wilfred Percival George born 1917 Westham? was an orphan after his mum died when he was only 6 weeks old. Her name was Gertrude George c1890. The father ran off so no chance of tracing him. Gertrude's parents were named Benjamin George c1867 from Biggleswade, beds and his wife Catherine Wishart c1867 from Falmouth, Cornwall. I AM HAVING TROUBLE FINDING CATHERINE WISHART'S PARENTS. Benjamin and Catherine brought my grandad up after his mother died. Catherine and Benjamins other children named, Violet 1891, Florence 1894, Henry 1897, Albert 1901. It is believed Catherine remarried after Benjamin.

Any information would be much appreciated.

Do you have Gertrude's birth certificate to confirm her parents' names? I don't see a possible marriage for them.

Do you have the birth certs of any of the apparent children of Benjamin and Catherine?

I don't think they married.

Where did you get the surname Wishart?

Thank you for your help Rootgatherer. I have also looked for their marriage to no avail. I am pretty certain the parents are Benjamin and Kate(catherine) my mum remembers the childrens names of these two and they all match, also from the right area.

My grandad remembers her Maiden name as Wishart, not totally sure on the spelling though. They might not have married. Apparently Catherine remarried to a Mr Harper, no clue of his first name.

Flick, it could well be, she was living in I think Dalston, London. I found Catherine and Benjamin living in Hackney. Catherine was born in Cornwall and sent to London to be a maid.
