Find Ancestors

From the 1911 census posted (if that was the correct Catherine) it looks like the children with her have the surname George. At that time she was 44 and there are no further births after 1911 for Harper mmn Wishart. There are some for Harper mmn George but they are in Aston and the others would be when Catherine was too old to have children.

If those two children on the 1911 were William's children, then you would have expected that they would have used his surname after he married Catherine.

I looked on that search but couldn't find it. Must have done something wrong.

I found Gertrude's death on FreeBmd which is free to search.

My grandad knew of Mr Harper as his dad, never knew his first name though he always called him Mr Harper so could be that Ben and Catherine were not together then. Something I will need to check with my grandad.

So Ben and Catherine were still together after that date?

Rootgatherer this could be a possibilty, not sure of a Nellie though, have not found any information on her before.

I have been told that Catherine had some children with Mr Harper, not sure if Benjamin died or she left him.

That can't be the correct second "marriage" for Catherine if your GRandad was brought by by Ben and Catherine after Gertrudes death!!

Not sure of the mention of Annie. My grandad remembers moving to Leytonstone when Catherine remarried to William Harper as has been found.

I am not seeing a death for Ben of the correct age on Freebmd before Catherine remarries so I don't think they ever married although she seems to have married William using the surname George.

Thanks for searching this all looks very likely. Seems she called herself Mary then. Thank you for the advice, I have attached the information on my tree as suggested.

Maybe Gertrude living with maiden aunts??

Flick, it could well be, she was living in I think Dalston, London. I found Catherine and Benjamin living in Hackney. Catherine was born in Cornwall and sent to London to be a maid.
