Anne Report 3 Apr 2010 11:03

Hi Back again,
I have been using the "Find my Past" census :-

1861 George -Father, Stephen b1852 age 20
1871 At Hussey's farm , Stephen b 1852 age 19
1881 Station Row Rainham, b 1852 age29
1891 Station Row Rainham b 1842 age 49

the 1891 census the birth date is incorrect as the address is the same and Florences birth dates match 1881 & 1891. So I think Stephen was just having a brain storm.

Do you have Ancestary,? if so could you look for Stephen's death. I have let Ancestary lapse and won't renew untill after the summer.

In the 1841 census the family is living in Romsey which is about 40 miles away from Long Sutton.I am not sure that this is them, but I can't find anyone else.

Thanks your help

Hi Again

Still trying to sort out this family

According to the 1891 Census Annie want to live with Henry and Hannah Pointer (Aunt and Uncle) . This seems OK for Annie but I am not sure about her Uncle.

Pointer Henry Married 45 born 1846. All OK but in Fordham Essex , which is a long was from Long Sutton Hampshire as stated in the 1851 census .

BMD Poynter Henry b march qtr 1846 Farnham 4 149

Farnham is in Hampshire and was the registration district at that time after it changed from Farnborough.

Are they two different Uncle Henry or do I need to find another Annie?

You wont find a birth registration for George as it was before civil registration began

A baptism might be found but I doubt you'd get this online

As for James, this looks promising

Births Jun 1842 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Poynter James Farnham 4 126

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

or

Births Dec 1844 (>99%)

POINTER James Whitchurch H 7 224

Do you have certificates for the info you are gathering, as you cant be sure unless you do

Looks like the child from the 1871 census with mom Emma and father James. George as the middle name after his grandfather?

Hi Ginny

Thanks that is helpful, I am hoping to make a visit to Winchester sometime. I think they have some of the records.

I'm particularly worried about Henry. I don't think the two match up. The family were all land workers and in 1861 he was working on Manor Farm Well Long Sutton I can't find him on any census until he pops up in 1891 as a bricklayer born in Essex

However Annie seems right. She was born in 1880 in Rainham Kent after the family moved there about 1878.

There are Pointers( Poynters) in Reigate and Thanet, but I don't think they fit.into the puzzle, as most of mine stayed in Hampshire around Long Sutton until the whole family moved to Milton (Rainham) where they stayed.

That's fantastic.. I think you have done it .. you have found the connection to Reigate. I should have gone back over these, but at the time I was tying to find out what happened to my Gt Aunts. Now I am writing the descendants from George and therefore finding holes that I am trying to plug.

Gee Report 1 May 2010 09:14

The death of James Painter doesnt look to be the same James 'Painter' Poynter that married Emma as they are on the 71 census!

I wonder if this is Henry

Anne

Anne Report 1 May 2010 09:22

Hi

Yes I like this, in fact I had wondered if he had joined up and was starting to trawl though the national archives service records.

I had not bought certs for this family firstly as I expected them to be difficult and secondly is that they are so expensive now. I wanted to be as sure as I could be as I have some of the info in the Family Bible. It now looks as if I will have too.
