Thanks Jan. Not sure where they mean then. Unless they meant Sussex and wrote Surrey. This is definately going to be a certificate job i think. Thanks for all your help. |

Lou, just to say have had a look at 1911 original and it definitely says Stenning, but most likely a spelling error on their part. |

Just a quick note. I checked my info again and i got Stenning from the 1911 Cenus. Need to buy more credits to see the actual census so will have to wait. I know that Fredericks children were born in Sussex and Kent so they are the most likely places for him to be from but i do know that they did/had at some point travel with The Andrews Fair as my nan told me about her mum Gentina selling sweets on the fair. The Andrews are their cousins (so i have been told by my nan, which obv might not be true as word of mouth can be hearsay) |

Thanks so much for all of your replies. Think the best thing to do is wait until i have moved house and order some certificates. I have spent 3 years finding Gentina and her marriage etc as her name is spelt differently on all registrations incl 1911, birth, marriage and death. I am sure another few months wont make too much difference. lol. It was a long shot so thanks for all your help guys Nobody ever said family history was a quick proccess lol. |

Looking at the 1901 and 1911 census entries again, i`m not sure you have the same person on both.. |

I'm not aware of a Stenning in Surrey. There's one in Sussex. |

If I was you I would buy Gentina's birth certificate first to establish her mother's maiden name. If it turns out to be Swan then you can be pretty certain that we have given you the right marriage in Tonbridge. Then you have to decide whether or not to buy the marriage certificate as this is the only way to be certain of Frederick's father's name so you can be sure you have the right family in the 1901 census. |

In answer to your original question....... yes there is a chance that this may be the correct Frederick G Carter but....... by the same note it may not be, there could have been more than one Frederick G. Carter born Surrey c1881 |

OK the spelling was right!! I know it gets expensive but there are times when a cert becomes necessary and this might be one of them: |

This looks like the birth reg. for Gentina....if you purchase this it will confirm parents names including mothers maiden name... |
