Aha! Well believe us, you aren't the first and won't be the last.

You'd think if you pays your money you'd get something more useful than the likes of us, wouldn't you?

But we are the best, really. Hey, Dea and I just beat out that Nick Barrett guy on TV on a tough case. He got paid and didn't solve it; we solved it in no time flat (and we pay for the privilege!).

Problem with your situation is we don't do well outside the UK and the better-known colonies.

Any time you come up with anything though, just add it here and anybody who has posted in your thread will see right away that there's something new.

Barry - there are about 3.5 million people living in Johannesburg so if there are any other South African's on this forum it is unlikely they would know exactly where the people you are looking for live exactly.

A suggestion - why not google "Coward Johannesburg", it will come up with a couple of people living in South Africa and Jhb with that surname and send them an email. Because it is an unusual name and settler surnames don't go back to far that they may know the people you are looking for. You may not get replies from everyone but it may work.

There was a family with the surname Coward living in Durban South Africa, in fact the father is my Godfather, but they moved to Canada about 10 years ago.

Oh and by the way, their ship couldn't have docked in Rhodesia (page 1) as Rhodesia/Zimbabwe is landlocked and maybe 500 kilometers from the ocean ;-) Usually the ships would dock at Cape Town or Durban but also Port Elizabeth and East London.

Good luck with your search.

Barry Report 6 Sep 2010 14:52

Hi Glenn yes i know the ship must have left Port Elizabeth but acording to the ships passenger list wich is not printed clearly they lived at Rhodesia but not clear where they docked ,surly out of 3.5 million people some one must know where they are, i tried as you said and surched on google but all i got was Coward the playwrite or people being coward's about people killing people Thank you

Flick Report 6 Sep 2010 14:59

Sorry, Barry, but you have a rather unrealistic view of what can be found............

You haven't even any idea of the surnames of the females, who one assumes would have married

No idea of where you live, but do you know everyone in the town/city?

Think it through.........................

Barry

Barry Report 6 Sep 2010 15:47

Hi Flick
Yes I'am thinking it like looking for a needle in a ploudup field , but i was just hopeing that someone on the end of that thread might know but as you said to be a bit realistic about it .One can only dream .
Thank you for your time.

Unfortunately there are lots of killings here so that would probably come up quiete often.

Try using advanced search and set it to look in SA only. Also try "Coward SAPPI". The chief information officer's surname is Coward and gives his email address, try him.

There are 3.5 million people ... and exactly how many of them read this internet site???

I think that's the actual question.

And I think the answer might be something like, oh, two ...

The thing is that nobody who reads this thread is going to know these people, and nobody who's read this thread has any idea how to go about finding people in southern Africa whose surnames aren't even known ...

A classified/small ad in a local newspaper might be an idea.

Usually, to find people, one has to go looking for them, not just hope they get found.

Hi Jane
What do you expect me to do jump on a plane and look for them?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 28 Oct 2010 13:41

Jane ... Jean .. whatever. I wrote what everybody's thinking. ;)

Btw, I can't think why you'd think I expect you to jump on a plane, etc.

What I did actually say, in the post that causes you such distress, was:

A classified/small ad in a local newspaper might be an idea.
