Ok.....
Jack Wicks is my grandfather on my mothers side. I have his Birth & Marriage Certs.
His parents John Wicks & Emma Fuller. I have their Marriage Cert.
Johns father is George Wicks a labourer....
Thats all I know... I do not have Johns birth cert...as I don't know which John he is...but I blieve this is most probably him.
Births Mar 1876 WICKS John Farnham 2a 91
But I cannot find him in the 1881 census..I think I have found him in the 1891 census but he is not at home..so it doesn't help with finding his parents.
So I am at a dead end right now. I have ordered the above birth record...but I doubt it will arrive until next year!!.
Ho Hum!!

Have you tried to contact the person who made the correction to his birthplace (on the 1891 census) on Ancestry?

Yes....I'm thinking it most probably is..... There appears to be no other that comes close....so I guess I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and buy the birth cert.

Hi Paul Sorry i missed the bit about you having his marriage certificate. Aldershot was covered by the Farnham District so it could be the correct one.

Hi Astra...
I do have the marriage cert...his fathers name was George & was a labourer...as I stated.
But I can't find John in the 1881 census so as to find out his mothers name and where his parents came from. Or if he had sibblings.
I think the above 1891 census is him...but hes not at home..so its no help. He was born in Aldershot...so the census says....but I can't find a birth.
Though there is one in Farnham...which is not far from Aldershot....
Births Mar 1876 ?? WICKS John Farnham 2a 91
But again..means paying out when Im not sure if its him. :(
Thanks anyway.

HI Folks,
I am now looking John Wicks parents.
I have his marriage cert and it tells me his fathers name was George and that he was a labourer.
John was born in 1876 in Aldershot, Hampshire. But I cannot find him in the 1881 census.
This is probably him in the 1891 census.
1891 England Census about John Wicks Name: John Wicks Age: 15 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1876 Relation: Boarder Gender: Male Where born: Aldershot New Town, Hampshire [Sldenbok, New Town] Civil parish: Christchurch Ecclesiastical parish: Christchurch County/Island: London Country: England Street Address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: Education: Employment status: View image Registration district: St Saviour Southwark Sub-registration district: Christchurch Southwark ED, institution, or vessel: 7 Neighbors: View others on page Piece: 341 Folio: 104 Page Number: 16
And in 1901
1901 England Census about John Wirths Name: John Wirths [John Wicks] Age: 25 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1876 Relation: Head Spouse's Name: Emma Wirths Gender: Male Where born: Aldershot, Hampshire, England Civil parish: St Lawrence Ecclesiastical parish: St Lawrence County/Island: Berkshire Country: England Street Address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: Education: Employment status: View image Registration district: Reading Sub-registration district: St Giles ED, institution, or vessel: 36 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 41 Piece: 1153 Folio: 33 Page Number: 6 Household Members: Name Age John Wirths 25 Emma Wirths 23 John C Wirths 3 Jane Fuller 54 James Fuller 19 Bessie Fuller 15 Susan Fuller 14 William Fuller
And that the family is living at 9 Somerset Place, Thorn Street, Reading, Berkshire, England in 1911.
BUT!!..without being able to find him in 1881..I can't disscover who his paremnts were...at least his mother.
Any ideas & suggestions would be most appreciated.
Cheers! Paul

How frustrating - there are 2 lots of Army records and 2 lots of Pension records for John on Ancestry.
They confirm his wife and children right down to Florence May but they stop short of when Jack was born...... dratt!!
It does give their address as 11 Hope Street, Reading right up until 1917 in case that helps to connect with Jack's birth cert?
