Also many thanks to Jansmith, SylviaInCanada and tempest for confirming that although I'm still wearing my 'L' plates the last few months haven't been a waste of my time and we all agree on the birth certificate, birth register and 1911 census for my grandad!

JaneyCanuck Report 1 Jun 2011 21:23

That's what I meant -- I focused on the Kensington one because we were told London. Lambeth isn't technically London, but I guess akcant decided at some point that that was the correct birth.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 1 Jun 2011 21:16

Kensington is also in London

so there were RWO Albert Edward's born in the same area at mroe or less tha same time!

Surely, the families have to be related?

And this is the birth you ordered the certificate for?

Births Mar 1911
Hearn Albert [BH] Lambeth 1d 319

No idea why it's been transcribed that way. The image (at Ancestry) is bad, but it appears to be Albert E.

Of course, your first post did say he was born in London ..............

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 1 Jun 2011 01:52

I think we'll have to assume somebody left off the "months"! And that's why it wasn't to be found before, by us ... or akcant ...

1911 census

doesn't say months on the original for Albert jnr but it's the same address as the birth cert

1 child born to marriage

>>>>>edit it's the same entry Janey found a few moments ago

and the signature looks like A E Hearn

JaneyCanuck Report 1 Jun 2011 01:39

By the way --

"Albert Edward was the first eldest son and would take on the name of his father, also Albert Edward Hearn"

-- if this was meant to be literary past tense rather than conditional, I'd suggest avoiding such flourishes!

I took it to be conditional, expressing uncertainty.

Much clearer to say:

"Albert Edward was the first eldest son and *took on* the name of his father, also Albert Edward Hearn"

if you know that for a fact, rather than be unclear and pounce on someone who quite reasonably took it as an assumption, since framed as conditional.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 1 Jun 2011 01:38

And a blast from the past.

So here you have the marriage

Marriages Sep 1910
Hearn Albert E Lambeth 1d 858
Leadbetter Elizabeth E Lambeth 1d 858

and still not to be found on the 1911.

No Albert born in or living in Lambeth, living with Albert and Elizabeth, with any name that looks at all like Hearn.

We do have

HEARN ALBERT 1879 32 Lambeth
HEARN ELIZABETH 1888 23
HEARN ALBERT 1907 4

as best I can sort out on a free search.

Births Jun 1879
Hearn Albert Edward Lambeth 1d 362

Births Sep 1888
LEADBETTER Elizabeth Emily Lambeth 1d 430

... I'm suspecting an error in the transcription.

Might it say 4 *months* and not 4 years?

Someone with a subscription can probably tell.

I've received the birth certificate for my grandfather, Albert Edward Hearn, born 17 December 1910, registered 20 January 1911 Lambeth, Kennington. It states his father is Albert Edward Hearn and mother is Elizabeth Emily Hearn (formerly Leadbetter), father's occupation General Labourer, signed by mother and address as 37 Auckland Street, Vauxhall, London. So I'm confused as to where John and Louisa as the parents appear.
My grandfather's siblings are - Rose, Winifred (Winnie), Elsie, Harry, William (Bill), George and 1 more brother, apparently he was one of 8.

John Hearn in 1911:

HEARN JOHN 1877 34 Kensington London

Did he die young - when his son Albert was very young?

Deaths Dec 1915
Hearn John 37 Kensington 1a 207

There's no other John Hearn that age in Kensington in 1911, although there are others in London.

JaneyCanuck Report 10 May 2010 05:20

Funny thing, eh?

Your opening post said:

"Please can some kind person find a 1911 Census for my grandfather? Albert Edward Hearn b. 17/12/1910 in London
m. 1934 to Elsie Abell St. Pancras, London
d. 23/11/1981 Stockport Cheshire."

If you'd bothered to mention that you had his father's name from his marriage certificate, people wouldn't have wasted the time and effort they did.

Here's another assumption you are making, though: that everyone (a) knew their father's name, and (b) told the truth on their marriage certificates.

Not to mention that bit about being the eldest son ...

If you had waited a short time until you have the birth certificate, you would have had reliable info to provide.

"Sorry".

Since there is only one Albert E Hearn birth registered in London between Dec 1910 and the 1911 census:

Births Mar 1911
Hearn Albert E Kensington 1a 108

and that one is a perfect match for the Albert Edward Hearn in Kensington in 1911 with parents John and Louisa, and there is no Albert Hearn in the vicinity with father Albert Hearn in 1911, I do wonder what birth certificate you've ordered.

akcant

akcant Report 10 May 2010 03:37

Hi JaneyCanuck

Sorry, but it is not an assumption about my grandfather. I have my grandfather (Albert Edward Hearn) and grandmother (Elsie May)'s marriage certificate which states his father's name as Albert Hearn.

I also have my grandfather's death certificate so the dates are correct.

I've ordered is birth certificate.

Thanks to every one for any help.

Hi Sylvia

I actually typed in the site you suggested when I received the warning from my virus software it had (somehow) redirected to the url I inserted so I am not sure what is going on with that site but I am using www.findmypast.co.uk/home.jsp buy as you need. Thank you again for your advice it is much appreciated. Regards Dianne

"Albert Edward was the first eldest son and would take on the name of his father, also Albert Edward Hearn"

That's a bit of a large assumption, is it not - that he would have had the same name as his father, even if he was the eldest son? Did your father know definitely that Albert was the eldest?

As Flick says, you need Albert Edward Hearn's marriage certificate to Elsie to see his father's stated name.

And this birth certificate, this being the only birth registration that matches your info:

Births Mar 1911
Hearn Albert E Kensington 1a 108

(i.e. it matches born Dec 1910, reg Jan 1911)

Hi Sylvia and Aster,

Thanks for your data on Albert Edward Hearn but on looking at my tree and confirming with my father, Albert Edward was the first eldest son and would take on the name of his father, also Albert Edward Hearn. So I'm not sure if this is my Albert.

I do not know the site that you tried to access. It doesn't actually sound like one of the legit sites!

This is the official 1911 site, set up about a year ago

www.fmpbsol.1911census.co.uk/

on this site, you can do a free search, and then buy credits to look at the transcripts and census images

or go to

www.findmypast.co.uk/home.jsp

This is the only site where you can subscribe to the 1911 census, with almost unlimited viewing (there is a maximum number of viewings you can do per month)

Looking at the subscription prices on there

6 month Full subscription £94.90 (includes sub to 1911)

6 month Explorer subscritpion (findmypast only) £54.95

6 month 1911 subscription £39.95

which means you get no discount for taking out the Full subscription!!!

which site you choose, really depends on how many lookups you think you need to do
