Townsend Family at 10 Jubilee terrace Bristol on 1911.

Do you know where she may have died?

Lucy

Lucy Report 8 May 2010 23:52

Thanks FannyByGaslight
I guess there is a chance they could have moved after the census was taken. This is the biggest lead I've had on that side of the family. I can see if any of these things sound plausible to my dad in the morning (Florence was his grandma). He's not mention Bristol before but that doesn't mean it's not possible.
Florence would have died in london/ surrey.

I would suggest getting a copy of the marriage cert then at least it would tell you who her father was and my grandparents married in 1929 and it did give thier ages rather than full age/minor

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 8 May 2010 23:56

To get further with Florences side you need to buy her marriage cert to Mr Gibbs.
That will give you her age at the time and her fathers name and occupation (if she knew it) and the witnesses may be some of her relatives.

Snap Jax...

Ok thanks Jax, you've been a great help!

Lucy

Lucy Report 8 May 2010 23:57

Will do FannyByGaslight,
thanks for your help!

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 8 May 2010 23:58

Maybe then...

Name: Florence L Gibbs
Death Registration Month/Year: 1955
Age at death (estimated): 48
Registration district: Surrey North Eastern
Inferred County: Surrey
Volume: 5g
Page: 767

But you really need her marriage cert for her age at least.

What was Mr Gibbs first name?

Lucy

Lucy Report 9 May 2010 00:01

Defo could be, the marriage cert will have her age/dob won't it?

He was Henry

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 9 May 2010 00:04

Then it is the marriage that Jax has posted Croydon 1929 that you need as the spouse on it is Henry E.

It will have her age,not exact DOB but how old she was on the day...
As long as she didnt lie of course !!

jax

jax Report 9 May 2010 00:05

must admit although it gave ages on my grandparents marraige cert grandad did lie about his age by 3 years for some strange reason

Lucy

Lucy Report 9 May 2010 00:06

Yea I'll go for that one, see what info it gives me
Thanks for your help
Lucy

Hope they don't lie on this one!

Hi Lucy

If jax and FannyByGaslight are correct in their findings, then I thought I'd give you something to think about.

There are over 1000 casualties called Adams in WW1, and that is just the British Army. So without a first name it would be very difficult to track him down.

The Mrs Adams on the photo shouldnt be your Florence as she would be Miss Adams or Mrs Gibbs. If the marriage between Walter Adams and Florence Hanks is the correct one, then Florence Hanks is the prime candidate for being Mrs Adams.

That means there is a chance that the young man in the photo is a Hanks not an Adams. There are 41 Hanks listed as army casualties in WW1

This is from the 1901 census, the address is 15 Goulter Street.

Registration district: Bristol
Sub-registration district: St Philip and St Jacob
ED, institution, or vessel: 40
Neighbors: View others on page
Household schedule number: 69
Household Members:
Name Age
Albert Hanks 41
Elizabeth Hanks 39
Florance Hanks 17
Charles Hanks 15
Bessey Hanks 12
Lillian Hanks 10
Albert Hanks 7
Henry Hanks 5
Ernest Hanks 2
Caroline Escott 70 (mother-in-law)

Same family on the 1911 census, the address is 4 Maze Street.

HANKS, Albert Head Married M 51 1860 Boot Yaster Bradford on Avon Wilts
HANKS, Elizabeth Wife Married
30 years F 49 1862 Exford Somerset
HANKS, Bessie Isola Daughter Single F 22 1889 Cream Maker Bristol St Phillips
HANKS, Lilian Daughter Single F 20 1891 Bag Maker Bristol St Phillips
HANKS, Albert Henry Son Single M 17 1894 Soll Stamper Bristol St Phillips
HANKS, Henry Harold Son Single M 15 1896 Casement Maker Bristol St Phillips
HANKS, Ernest Son M 12 1899 School Bristol St Phillips
HANKS, Gilbert Son M 8 1903 School Bristol St Phillips
HANKS, Cecil Son M 6 1905 School Bristol St Phillips
HANKS, Doris Irene Daughter F 3 1908 Bristol St Phillips

Glendare Street and Goulter Street are about a 4 minute walk apart and Maze Street is slap bang in the middle.

If the above is correct there is a good chance Florence Hanks and my great grandparents spoke with each other. They lived at 18 Glendare Street.

I hope this is of use and that I havn't jumped the gun
Nick

Ah thanks Nick that is really interesting!!
I'll have a look over it again when I get the cert and see if I can make it all add up.
I think the boy in the photograph would probably still be an Adams because he does look really quite young, and is probably her son. Could be another relative though...
I'll let you know if I find the link though!
