Sorry to say it does indeed sound unlikely you will have any success unless you come across someone who knew him in Scotland.

There are no birth, marriages or deaths on Scotlands People for Leleszes and a quick peek on 1901 census for that general area Lanark shows 6352 matches for Campbell families, not that he would have been there in 1901 but just to illustrate how difficult this is.

Just another case of how good it is to talk to your elders while trying to get details before it's too late.
I had the same problem with my OH's great grandparents who came from Belarus and Lithuania with the grandmother being unwilling to talk about them, although we have recently been able to unearth all of "skeletons" !!

Good luck.

Kathleen

Good morning Paula.
My cousins and I have been trying for years to trace my Grandfather George Leleszes (1889) who was born in Russia, escaped to Poland and eventually ended up in, (we believe), Motherwell where a family named Campbell cared for him. He very soon changed his name to Campbell before travelling down to St Helens in Lancashire where he married my Grandmother, Hannah Holden (1889), in 1910. My father and his siblings have 'Leleszes known as Campbell' on their birth and marriage certificates but my generation have just dropped Leleszes. It is a very long shot but could you throw any light onto our fruitless search.
Kindest Regards Kathleen Simm (nee Campbell)

Paula,

The information that I had, was Samuel Bennett was born approx 1855 in Glasgow and died in Australia, on his death certificate it is stated that his parents were Archibald McDougall and Margaret Moffett.

Duncan mcNeil Barclay son of Andrew Barclay marries a Julie Farrell in Mulligar on 23rd February 1919.
Duncan came from Scotland so I daresay did his father? Not sure when Duncan was born
He was also a soldier but no record of regiment etc

Frank 06,
On Mary's birth cert.it shows her name as Mary Newall or Stevenson.
My problem in finding her is that according to the poor relief records she is the daughter of Sarah Stevenson nee Newall and Hugh Sharp.
I have looked under all these names and still can's see her.
thank you
jean

So sorry Frank06, just noticed you did the look ups for Mary's birth and death,
Thank you once again. jean

Hi! Paula,
The light has been switched on, I had never considered the possibility that Isobel had remarried even though she would be in her late 20s early 30s Thomas seemingly kept the Carswell name as I know William the youngest child did, but Mary I do not know. Did Thomas live permanant with his grandmother Mary in Irongray ? did William go to live with the Carswells in Kirkgunzeon ? leaving Isobel and daughter Mary with her new husband ?.more research is need on my part.
Best wishes
Ian Carswell
