I have research in to Alice Anstey birth certificate and was told louisa was the mother and thomas the father. Edward the youngest of the anstey family was in the army, and it states is next of kin was his mother Louisa Miles. He join the army in 1916, he lived in Tudor street abergavenny. So i think the four anstey children did belong to her and not John miles

I am not sure, I have only found his army records. he joined the army inn 1916, he lived in tudor street abergavenny, according to the 1911 cenus he was born in abergavenny, but that doesnt mean he could have been registered in chepstow?

Pat, do you have Alice's birth certificate please? When you say you were told that her mother was Louise and father Thomas is this word of mouth information please?

These are the only births that I can see around the correct time and the area is wrong - so perhaps she was not registered as Anstey?

Sorry - in case you wonder where all this is going, I think you need to know what Louise's name was to find a birth for Leonard!

EDIT

Sorry - this looks like her birth.

On original 1911 it says children to present marriage 7 5 alive 2 died?
But on saying that it also says married 9 years.

I tend to think 1911 census are supposed to be accurate as they are filled by the occupiers themselves,in this case John Miles.

Thats if they tell the truth!!

Maryb

Has anybody found them in 1891?

Pat

Pat Report 16 May 2010 15:27

I was at the registra office when the women told me the parents of Alice, being louisa and thomas. I could not find any ansteys in the 1891 cenus. one of children would have been born then william 1888 and prehaps George1891. George was not on the 1901 but on the 1911 cenus. I still dont know about leonard who is the main one I am looking for, he his my grandfather so i dont want to go down the wrong tree, i cantunderstand why i cant find him, any suggestions?

I don't understand why we are not finding him either! Unless of course he changed his first name as well as changing from Miles to Anstey!

I am not finding any of them on the 1891 census and I haven't looked for George in 1901.

Pat Report 16 May 2010 16:06

I HAVE HAD A LOOK AT THAT AS WELL UNDER THE NAME JONES AND MILES. I HAVE FOUND A THOMAS HENRY MILES BORN IN ABERGAVENNY IN 1902. A JOHN MILES BORN IN MONMOUTH THATS THE CLOSEST I HAVE GOT. DO YOU THINK HE WAS THE SON OF EITHER OF THEM, BECAUSE YEARS AGO THEY USED TO JUST TAKE CHILDREN IN I THINK?

Christine2 Report 16 May 2010 16:17

It's making it even more difficult because, although William ages 10 years from 1901 to 1911, John and Louisa only age 4 years. Perhaps neither of them knew for sure where/when they were born for some reason?

Christine2 Report 16 May 2010 16:21

Perhaps it would be worth finding these Leonards on the 1911 census to check whether they all existed under that name or not?

Pat Report 16 May 2010 17:07

has anyone found a louisa jones born in raglan nr abergavenny monmouthshire, 1870 i believe she may have been the mother of leonard miles?

Christine2

Christine2 Report 16 May 2010 17:23

It would be almost impossible Pat. In 1911 it says born 1870 but in 1901 it says born 1865. There are far too many Louisa Jones born in Monmouth to hazzard a guess.

Pat

Pat Report 16 May 2010 17:35

Trust her maiden name to be jones! I have had alook at the info for 1911 cenus but came back with nothing. Very fustrating. I know leonards wear about fro 9 yrs old but nothing before.

Thank you I think this is correct, but i still cant find it in the 1891 cenus?. The spelling is different. Prehaps the spelling is wrong on Leonards birth records. He was born has leonard Miles on 1911 cenus, any suggestions what the spelling mistake could be?

Thank looks like the family in 1891 Lulubelle - well done!

The downside is that we now have 3 different birth years for Louisa - 1862, 1865 and 1870!! She is consistent about the place of her birth though.

I have tried looking for just Leonard with no surname for his birth, tried variations of Anstey and Miles too and nothing!

Pat

Pat Report 18 May 2010 05:17

I have tried looking for a marriage certificate for Louisa and John under miles and anstey and jones but no luck, i wondering now if they were every marrried. Anybody had any luck on that? I have found a John Miles that was born in monmouth in 1902, i am going tolook this up today at the registras to see, you never know?

Pat

Pat Report 23 May 2010 11:33

i have found a Annie louise jones baptist in raglan 1862, i believe this was her maiden name, mother mary eliza father john malster. I still cannot find birth, any marriage or death. but i do think she was born around 1862 has it states in the 1891 census because of her children age.
Has anyone found the marriage of louise or annie louise to thomas ansty or john miles?

Pat

Pat Report 23 May 2010 15:50

nobody, i have tried through various web sites but no luck.
I wondering whether she was actually married to john miles.

I will have to see if there is a copy of thomas anstey mariaige certificate in abergavenny to louisa. still have not found anything on leonard miles.
