Reinstating my thoughts that Maude Alice can't have married Albert Priestley in 1919 at the age of 13.

I originally deleted it as I thought I was having a 'senior moment' about who married Albert Priestley.

Perhaps Dee's posting at 14.55 will now make sense !

Private baptism often means the child was not expected to survive.

Just to throw a spanner in the works (or this MAY help)
My mums mother was maried twice,,,,, on my mums birth record it says her mothers maiden name was feesey (first marriage)..... so maybe, if we look for William Wallis with the mothers maiden name as Westlake?? or a Westlake born with a mothers maiden name of Wallis?? was just thinkin lolol

Loo,

it's quite a tricky situation you have here.

The marriage cert of your Grandparents is going to help hopefully.

I think you may have to hang fire with everything else until that arrives....... with any luck the info on here will tie into that marriage certificate?? If it does then we can carry on, but if it doesn't it's back to the drawing board.

I'm thinking that mother Maude was not married to Mr Westlake for some reason (maybe he was already married, quite common practice, divorce was only for the rich!!) They splitup/ he dies, or something alike and she for some reason marries Edward Wallis in Goole, he then dies and she marries Albert R Priestley.

The children, including your Grandfather take on the Wallis name and marry using it???

Time will tell, fingers crossed.

Choccy, the Henry W G Wallis Death you put up, could well be him! He was in London at the time, and it was about 1968/1969 when he died, and on my dads cert it says Henry William Wallis, but his marriage says William G H Wallis........ I'm not liking this riddle much anymore!! lol
The Marriage cert will be on way tomorrow, so should be here by weekend :D :D Then I'll have fathers at least to work with!!1
