Hi,
Im looking for info on : Charles Flynn ( or Flynne ) born 1877 location ?? ( could be Ireland )

I believe he had siblings ( William/ Billy , Robert , Annie, Mary) with Charles being the eldest.

I know ( ish ) he married Jane Whiteford in 1912 and had several children ( some are recorded as Flynn others as Flynne )

I believe there is a link somewhere to Askam in Furness as a reletive can remember visiting Charles's sisters ( with Charles )across there in 1945 ..

Other than that ... i cant seem to find anything before him getting hitched in 1912 ....

If you come across anything , i would be glad of the info

Thanks in Advance

Jon

Jon...I assume you have his Marriage Cert...Reg Sept.1912 Hexam...
That would show his fathers name and Charles address at time of his Marriage..
Have you looked at the 1911 Census to see if he was in the area...?

Jon.... Flynn's found all over the Durham/Sunderland areas also the Whiteford's came from the same areas
This will be yours some where along the line..dont think there were too many with the name...(Janes father's name)

The " Co.Hanuhan" for Mary Flynn (1911 Census) I would suggest should be Co Monaghan.

Burials Gateshead
Fenwick Whiteford birth abt 1848 death 1848

BrummieJean ... yep , that is our Whiteford lot !
we got 1877 from a relative and we think he was 78 when he died in 1954 .... am awaiting Death Cert as a relation is sure they have a copy !

Also looks like the Cumbria link was correct .... im not surprised i couldn't find him , they had altered the surname to flinn ! ( my family names seem the bane of my life !! ) he is listed as Flinn / Flynn / Flynne

E1916 ... Fenwick seems to have been a popular name in our Family ( it seems to have died out in the 20 / 30's ) as i've found abiut 7 of them !

Thank you all for this ... its a massive help and sets me off looking in the right directions :o)

Jon, I would seriously consider getting his marriage cert as without it you are really at risk of going astray. Getting ages etc. from relatives is very dodgy, as I know to my cost!!
Incidentally, are you certain of his marriage?
Also, the spelling of Flinn was done by the enumerator, and not incorrect as such, just spelt as he heard it!

Jon...If you are assuming that the Maryport (1891) family is yours then note that this is Charles snr's 2nd Marriage...(look at Ann's age and gap between children following Charles (b 1877)...
On that assumption I have cross ref this and found the following...

jon...The Ann Featherstonehaugh marrying Charles ...was b Denton Cumberland and the daughter of a Methodist Minister...This does not fit with the 1911 Census of Mary "Flynn" W.b Co Monaghan living with son Charles b 1877(Coal miner) living in Benwell....
My money is on that connection at the moment.

brummiejan Report 26 May 2010 19:03

If you are in the UK certs shouldn't take more than a week to arrive - they were very slow for a while just before the price went up but hopefully back to normal now! let us know how you get on.

I ordered it from the GRO site ... but it did give a despatch date of the middle of next week .... its silly , but im a little excited.

Charles & Jane's kids .. i have them all ( Margaret 1912, Hannah 1914, Mary 1916, Charles 1920,Fenwick 1921,James 1923,Anne 1926,Joyce 1929,Shiela 1930(ish) )

It was James that can remember visiting Relations in Askam in Furness with his father and their names , and he can recall his grandparents visiting , but he only saw them the once and was very young at the time and neither he nor Joyce ( the 2 remaining children ) know their names or have any documents ( what paperwork / photo's they that had were destroyed by Charles (Jnr ) after his parents had passed away.
