On the image the entry for Eugenia Evang has been crossed through.

Not sure exactly what that means but I've always assumed that the passenger didn't embark.........of course it could mean something else.

Edit: Evans J? is travelling with parents William and Elizabeth

Hello, Thanks for the info JaneyCanuck,
Can you tell me what FMP is, sorry the brain is not working, but will look into it

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 28 Jul 2010 02:01

Can anyone check at FMP whether these two people were travelling together?

EVANS J? 1922 M 1925 Southampton USA New York
EVANG Eugenia 1888 F 1925 Southampton USA New York

Long shot, but you never know. My free results seem to say they weren't, but it's always worth checking.

There are also all the gazillion other Evans-s who left the UK after 1920 under only initials, or not even that. I would imagine there is a good possibility Eugenie left England and Richard Evans just claimed to be a bachelor when he remarried, since otherwise he would have been stuck with a living wife whose whereabouts was unknown, for the rest of his life.

Actually, just a look at the record for Eugenia Evang herself would be nice.

I have both certificates,
Richard Evans married Eugenie Jouval on the
18th June, 1919 at Reading Register office.
Her Dad was Theophile Jouval ( manager of dockyard )
deceased.
John Richard was born 6th August, 1920 in Reading.
I have been in touch with the person who had the codes and names but no other info.
Thanks all

Have you tried to contact the GR member who has Eugenie Jouval born 1895 in ?France in his tree, as mentioned by zoe? Or perhaps this is someone you are already in contact with.

Others do need to know what leads you have followed and what the results are, to try to help.

This is the son John:

Births Sep 1920
EVANS John R YOUVAL Reading 2c 735

Have you obtained the birth certificate? If so, what is his exact date of birth?

Death records after about 1969 state the date of birth in the GRO index (if it was known to the person who reported the death).

Even though his was a common name, if he died in England/Wales, it could be possible to identify his death by the birthdate.

Hello there,
I have been trying to find Euginie Jouval pos born in France 1895 she married in 1919 to Richard Evans and had a son in1920, but can't find out what happened to her or their son John. Have tried to make sense of French records to find out where she might have been born, but can't find her. Don't speak French and finding it hard to know what to do now. If anyone can help me it would be a big help. Please .....Help

Hello, Richard Charles Evans remarried in 1926 and said he was a bachelor aged 31, not a divorcee or widower. Euginie has her age as 22 when she married Richard. So 1895 France could be a possible, but would love to know where in France and see if she left the country.

"""""""but I know they were not together in 1925/6 as he remarried but don't know what happened to her or their son""""""

Did Charles Richard Evans remarry as a widower or a divorcee ??

Thank you all for your help, will try to see if they do lead me anywhere, I did think she might have come over from France as I know her husband was over there in the war, but I know they were not together in 1925/6 as he remarried but don't know what happened to her or their son. Thanks again

It's also worth just googling. There are a few Jouvals on MySpace and Facebook.

http://www.geneanet.org/genealogie/fr/jouval.html

I don't know how reliable or useful that site is, but it seems to have loads of people with Jouval family trees, and a contactable genealogist named Jouval.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 9 Jun 2010 00:05

The Theophil Jouval 1848 whom Ann o' GG found in 1880 is in the 1910 US census with son Philippe. The name has been corrected from "Pheophill F Jorral".

I wonder whether the correction was made by a user who could be contacted? I don't have access to look. The name is just kind of coincidental, and even if not directly related, a related person might know something about the name.

There are also Jouvals in the US censuses born in Canada, but I see no Jouvals in Canada 1901 or 1911 at automatedgenealogy or in any Canadian census at ancestry.ca.

This is a useful site:

http://www.geopatronyme.com/

It's in French but fairly easy to understand (I think; I'm fluent in French so it's hard for me to say!).

84 JOUVALs were born in France between 1891 and 1915 -- these are all aggregate numbers, not individual names, but it gives you an idea, it's fairly rare.

The name was concentrated in the southeast of France in that period.
