I have failed to find birth details for Mary Ann Dudley who married Thomas Nicholls in 1851.

According Census 1861 she was born c1820 in Walworth, Surrey.

Would appreciate a fresh pair of eyes - my right eye is strained and very sore.

How do you do it - I thought I had looked at all records, but did not find this.

Would welcome some details of where you found the info - and how you did it.

Many, many thanks

Need an expert view please.

Sent for the birth certificate of Henry William Nicholls the son of Thomas Nicholls & Mary Ann. Thomas was the 'cousin' to whom my great grandfather was apprenticed, and I believe is the son of Peter.

Mary Ann's maiden name was Dudley.

Registration district : Strand, Sub-district Saint Mary

I would like to find the marriage of Thomas Nicholls & Mary Ann Dudley (from the 1861 Census she was born about 1820 in Walworth, Surrey.

I can find no trace.

Thanks in advance

Arthur

Hi Arhur,
Name: Mary Henniker spinster
Spouse Name: Peter Nicholls widower
Record Type: Marriage
Event Date: 12 Jun 1825
Parish: St John at Hackney
County: Middlesex
Borough: Hackney
Married after banns. Both signed their names. I can't read one of the witnesses names (but it doesn't look like Nicholls or Henniker to me). The other witness was Caleb Turner.

Edit: Arhur?????????????

Patricia

Thanks for info.

Need to establish when Eliza Nicholls (?First wife) died.

Still cannot find William in 1861 census. Perhaps he died between 1851 & 1861. Will now research Amelia Nicholls, who is not living with Peter & Mary Nicholls on 1861 census.

Found a different groom for one of the marriages, found another marriage but was before the 1842 one to Eliza Peace, so the remote possible you are left with is unfortunately not Chelsea, and there are several choices of brides and grooms:

Have you found William in 1841?
There are 2 likely William to Amelia marriages 1841 to 1851.
Have you found them in 1861, to see if there are any children?
Thanks

Looking at the 1851 Census again, it appears that Amelia (born Chelsea) is the wife of William.

Would like to trace this marriage too.

A fresh pair of eyes.....

Thanks in advance

Have now discovered a Thomas Nicholls born to Peter & Sarah October 1820 Southwark (Surrey/Middx).

If this is the same Peter & Sarah, parents of William, Elizabeth Sarah & Sarah, then they moved from Sudbury to London.

Have been able to trace Thomas forward to 1861 and beyond. My great grandfather Arthur was apprenticed to Thomas as an Instrument Maker. Arthur came from Sudbury, Suffolk and I am trying to establish the family connection with Peter.

Would you name twins (they have the same birthday) Elizabeth and Elizabeth Sarah - I don't think so.

Very curious

I would imagine that there were 2 Elizabeths born to Peter and Sarah.

I have been provided with info that indicates William was not the only child of Peter and his first wife Sarah Redgwell.

Father: Peter Nicholls, Mother: Sarah Redgwell

International Genealogical Index / British Isles - 7

3. WILLIAM NICHOLS - International Genealogical Index

Gender: Female Birth: 01 APR 1813

7. SARAH NICHOLLS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 06 NOV 1814 All Saints, Sudbury, Suffolk, England

Wonder what happened to the 2 girls and when Sarah, the mother died.

Elizabeth appears to have been christened twice and in two different churches some six years apart. Is this unusual? Any thoughts much appreciated.
