Thanks Sylvia and everyone else for a very interesting thread. I found the connection with William Hatfield, and Sarah Ann, his future wife. William boarded with Martha Maria and Thomas Young. Both men were tailors. You also gave me heaps of other info I didn't have about the family, so I am very grateful. I'll continue the search. Cheers, Margaret

Hi Margaret

Just one point

The fact that William and Mary were both 15 on the 1841 Census does NOT necessarily mean that they were twins.

The enumerators were under instructions to round DOWN to the nearest 5 the ages of all people aged 15 and over

so all that means is that William and Mary individually were somewhere between 15 and 19 years of age.

If you notice, William and George's ages were also multiples of 5.

You will have to fiond them on the 1851 Census, or on the IGI or somewhere to see whether they really were twins.

Hi All, You are doing a sterling job of broadening your searching. When I tried yesterday, I found Martha Maria's marriage to Thomas Young, at Shoreditch, and I have always had a handwritten copy of Sarah Ann's marriage cert. In the 1841census I found William Bloice, 45, George 20, William 15 and Mary 15. No mother, and twins, which still occur in my family today, usually every second generation. (My father had twin brothers.) Couldn't find a record of William's marriage. And of course, would still like to know Robert sen's parents and Martha Rebecca's maiden name and parents. Too much wishing? And I think William Longden Hatfied, tailor, and named Attfield in the record, boarded with one of the Bloice sisters, and that's how he and Sarah Ann met. Thanks again, M

Do you have Sarahs marriage certificate?
GRO: Shoreditch 1c 319
If so does it give her address at time of marriage and her fathers occupation?

An extra item: Emma Doggett was Emma Blofs, and Stephen was her father, Not sure if he was related to the Robert/Martha group, or just a signatory to Samuel Dobree's marriage to Emma. It may be a fairly mixed bloodline! M

Sorry, SnowyJen, This Robert is from Snape, and his parents are Richard and Sarah. He is not the father of Sarah Ann or Samuel Dobree, so can't be the father of the others you found, as they all say Father Robert Bloice, mother Martha Rebecca. I found Edward Alfred this morning, but he died aged 9. Searching for the others who married, such as Charlotte Caroline and Martha Maria, in census returns, is an uphill battle, even on IGI. Oh for a miracle! But many thanks for your efforts up to now. Should I keep watching, or will we let it go? Margaret

Thanks again, SnowyJen. I think your research is telling me that Sarah Ann and Samuel Dobree are not siblings. Since it is Sarah Ann to whom I am related directly, I will eliminate Samuel D, and add the others you found. I can certainly verify the Hatfield end of your research. Regards, M

On Ancestry.co.uk there are the following children born to a Robert and Martha in the baptism, marriage records, unfortunately I can't view the full image.

Martha Maria 1821 and she married Thomas Young
Charlotte Caroline married William Smith Jnr in 1849
Sarah Ann married William Longdon hatfield 1852 in Shoreditch London.
Edward Alfred Bloice.
But I can't verify any of the above.

I can't find them on 1841 /1851 census's to check them out.

Great Bentley Colchester Essex.
So I don't think it means Great Bromley.
