Hi Cynthia,
Since renewing with GR I have found that Chris (Christine) had been in touch with me via "Hot Matches). This was in June 2010 regarding another family member.
I posted onto this thread so that Chris would hopefully see the info & that other's who had responded to her request would see just how good they were in their searching.
I will do as you suggest & send a message direct to her.
Rgds Matt

Hello Matt, as you have noticed, this is an old thread from last year so it may be better to click on Chris's name and send your message that way. If he still has the same email address he will be notified.

Regards. Cx.

Hi Chris.
I was just doing a Google search for Eleanor & found this posting.Have not had an active membership on GR for a good few years, but have just renewed my membership in order to post this reply.
The Eleanor you are searching for is my wifes Great Grand Mother.
Her full name was Eleanor Sophia Peart, b 1864 at Hartlepool,Durham.
Her parents were George Peart, b1838 Norfolk & Sarah Francis Tombling,
b 1840 Norfolk. They married at west Hartlepool in 1860 & went on to have 11 children including Eleanor who was the oldest daughter.
In 1882 she married Henry Duncan (1862-1909) & went on to have 5 children with him...Isabella Francis--George William--Robert Henry--Albert Victor--Anna Elizabeth.
In the 1891 census the family are living at 11 Crimden Street,West Hartlepool. By the 1901 census the family have split up. Henry is a lodger along with his son George living with the Lawrence family. The other 2 boys Robert & Albert are living with their G/father Robert Duncan at 10 Dacre Street,West Hartlepool. Also there is their fathers sister Isabella & her husband John Barker.
As for Eleanor.....she is with her new "Husband" George Hartley b1860 at Glossop,Derbyshire. They are living at 11Skinner Street,Stockton On Tees. With them are Eleanor's 2 daughters Isabella & Anna. Also with them is Florrie Hartley aged 2 years, the daughter of George & Eleanor. (Her full name is Florence Mary Cordelia Hartley, 1899-1977).
Now where did they go to.
They moved to Manchester.... In 1907 daughter Isabella married John Burns at Salford,Manchester.
In the 1911 census Annie & Florrie are living at 16 Evelyn Street,Eccles,Manchester with Isabella & her husband John.
George Hartley is a boarder living at 70 Coronation Street,Salford.Although on his own he is shown as having been married for 13 years. There is no trace of Eleanor. In the 1920's the families moved to Southport where they remained.
My MIL a daughter of Florrie remembers travelling by bus with Florrie to Manchester.Florrie pointed out a church with a graveyard & stated that Eleanor was buried there. This was just after WW2 and the location of the church is unknown. I have never been able to find a death certificate for Eleanor under any of her 3 surnames.
Same with George Hartley,I have a number of birth & death certs for him but none fit. The last record I have for him is when he was a witness at the marriage of Anna to James Smith in 1918 at Manchester.
Hope this helps & that you are still active on here.
Rgds Matt.

I will try and see if I am able to access the passenger lists, if not I will post again another time.

Astra that death for Henry Duncan in 1909 looks like it could be the one, particularly if he is not showing up on the 1911 Census. Thanks for that.

there are some Eleanor Duncans in US passenger lists but I don't have access to those

No I didn't know about the Ancestry photo's, I will go on later and see if I can find the tree.

Rambling Report 28 Jun 2010 16:09

There is a Henry Duncan on Photos on Ancestry, private tree do you know about that Chris?

Now that is something to think about Rambling Rose.

The only other thing I can think of is, the family seem to be in employment as Shipwrights, would it be possible she booked a passage and fled the country, possibly to America. Do they have records of passengers for that time period between 1891 & 1911?

Astra

Astra Report 28 Jun 2010 16:01

Can't trace either of them in 1911 but i think Henry died in 1909.

This is just a thought as i had come across something similar, there is no way of confirming...but if nothing else is found might be worth thinking about. The asylums tend to just use initials...and it does say 'single' so hopefully it isn't her

I'm afraid Rambling Rose I'm not sure of anything but her husband Henry is showing up on the 1901 in some sort of boarding house with the eldest son George W. and Henry her husband is listed as married not a widower so I have assumed that she was alive in 1901. Perhaps I should see if someone can find her on the 1911.

Struggling with this one as not found a possible in 1901 or 1911 nor a death

Astra

Astra Report 28 Jun 2010 15:50

Thanks Chris. Think we have found all of that but it's her death that is the missing link. Unless of course she just left home.

Thanks Astra & Glitter Baby

This is the 1891 Census for the family I am tracing:

Name: Ellanor S Duncan
Age: 27
Estimated birth year: abt 1864
Relation: Wife
Spouse's name: Henry
Gender: Female
Where born: West Hartlepool, Durham, England
Civil parish: Stranton
Ecclesiastical parish: Christchurch
Town: West Hartlepool
County/Island: Durham
Country: England
Registration district: Hartlepool
Sub-registration district: Hartlepool
ED, institution, or vessel: 26
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
Henry Duncan 29
Ellanor S Duncan 27
Isabella F Duncan 8
George W Duncan 6
Robert Henry Duncan 3
Amy V Peart 14
Albert Victor Duncan 6/12

The family seems split up on the 1901 Census, the husband and son are in a boarding house together although he is still listed as married and not a widower. The other children are with relatives either aunts or uncles. I cannot find Eleanor anywhere on the 1901 and can't find a death for her either. Is it possible she was sickly in hospital maybe even terminally ill or dying. I would still think that people in institutions or hospitals would have to be on Census somewhere?

Hope this extra info helps you to help me, I'm at my wits end.
Thanks Chris
