Success Flick !!

Young Catherine's birth cert. arrived this morning!
You were absolutely right ... and I find your insight just uncanny. If she is alive she would be 88 now. I can only hope she had children.
Can't thank you enough.
Norma.

Hi Flick

I sent for a birth certificate for Catherine should be here by tomorrow. However I talked to a Drinkwater second cousin tonight on the phone and she knew of joe & Kitty and their daughter Catherine. Many thanks for the push in the right direction...much appreciated.

Michele connected me to a Drinkwater second cousin and we spoke on the phone this evening and it was so enjoyable. I call this a huge
success and was one of my main objectives.
Cheers Michele

Michele posted a message on Ancestry for me and I now have contact with one of Robert's
descendants. It feels surreal to be talking to someone in real time who shares my ancestry.I hope there will be lots to share and I have Michele's generosity to thank for this.

Hello Flick
I am puzzled by the need to go to freebmd.
Does it have superior records that are not available here. I see you can pay pence for info.
but how practical is that ?

I searched several sites, and most aggreed that Kitty was a name derivative of both Catherine
( all spellings of) and Kathleen, The latter I have always viewed as an Irish name.
Just one little step.
Is there any way I could view a birth certificate
without buying one ?

Hi Norma,
Im really sorry lve only just had chance to get back to your thread, this is the info taken from the tree on ancestry. But first l would like to say there is a photo on the tree of three brothers David, Robert & Austin.

Robert married lily Russell Maybury on 21/7/1913 they have 3 children all boys. Lily died in 1940. One of the boys was called david born 1918 died in1977 lovely photo of him in his swim suit. Regards michelle

Marriages Dec 1919
Drinkwater David (Furey) Chorlton 8c 1993

One of their children was Veronica, 1928, Manchester.

Someone at GR has a Veronica Drinkwater born 1925 in Manchster in his tree. There wasn't any such Veronica Drinkwater (you can check, search for births for that name at FreeBMD) -- David's daughter is the only one close.

The same person has David's daughter Agnes 1922, and two other people also have her in their trees. And the same person has David's daughter Irene 1926, although again slightly off on the age.

So there are some people you want to contact! Do the search for the children's births at FreeBMD first so you have the info, and go ahead and send them messages!

And of course get all the siblings and nieces and nephews of Austin into your own tree, gradually.

Oh, and read the message I sent you. ;)

Hi Janey
Dog hasn't been out and I doubt I can sleep with all this excitement. I'm like a child in a sweet shop.
Many thanks

Hi Flick
Thanks for the correction. Must be getting cocky about my short term memory. A false memory can't be any use to my efforts.

The other thing a newbie needs to be reminded of sometimes -- "Search Trees" (the button up in the top row) can be the best tool here once you have names.

Now that you have the names and approximate birthdates of all of Austin's siblings, you can search to see whether they are in anyone's tree here at GR (make the birthdate "plus or minus" 5 years, since sometimes people don't know the real birthdate of an ancestor). If you find any, you can click to send a message to the tree owner.

Hello Janey
I could just stay up all night now with all this expertise. I thought I did have the hang of the FreeBMD. The last info good to know, note taken.
ps I only came to geneology in the first place to try and find for my dear friend some info re her birth mother, and gave up 4 years ago. Now I feel much more confident that in time I may give her a gift of connection. Now it is my son who is pushing me and I understand why.
