And thank you Ann for the Leicester link, I may have a Belvoir, leicester connection elsewhere so this may be well worth looking into. We found a Charles Grass at Belvoir aged 11 in the 1901 census, born in caburton, was the nephew of Sarah Rudkin, born in Gifford who we believe to be Charles L Grass' sister. mmmmmmm.......

I'm trying to help my partner trace his tree as a surprise for his parents.
The man I am stuck on is Charles L Grass. I have him on the 1901 census, aged 44, born abt 1857, gamekeeper, born in Gifford, Scotland.
Thats where I am having problems. I have never traced anyone in Scotland and am having problems finding his birth or his family.
Gifford is in East Lothian, I believe, but I cant seem to find BMD's for this area. Can anyone point me in the right direction and help me look in the right places please?
We think he had a sister called Sarah L.
