Chat: Earn £60 - take part in our market research study

They stickie this on CHAT??

So they dont really want any of the people that help do the research for people on here ,as few of us that do even look at chat, and the only reason I did was JC was up to things over there again,!

And they have TRAINED RESEARCHERS to lead each discussion group to make this site better.

So we are not as good as the TRAINED RESEARCHERS just because we are not PAID?
Well there are people on here that are as good if not BETTER than your TRAINED RESEARCHERS GR...

Why not just listen to what we say on here??

What a load of cobblers.

Just ask us ,,,the main users,,on here our opinion or listen to what we email you about and you wont need to spend £60 a person plus the no doubt Extortionate fees of your TRAINED RESEARCHERS to find out .

And anyway it would COST more than £60 to travel to London and stay in even a run down B&b somewhere unsavoury for the majority of the regular users I would think.

I know its £90 return on the train for me to just GET there.

Ah ,but would you meet their"criteria"George?

Do you spend a lot of time on CHAT or GEN?

I dont think they would want the likes of you or me because we actually do RESEACH and help out others on here.

Who knows if we were part of their "discussion group"we may show up their TRAINED RESEARCHERS,that I for one have never seen use this site, not as if they would if they are "pros",so how would they know what we want?

There is always Cardboard City George, free dossing there, just take your own Cardboard box..

I would also like to attend

......... about £1000 for the plane ticket

.......... accommodation for at least 2 nights .......'cos I'd have to arrive the day before and couldn't leave until the day after

Just pointing out that not only is it denigrating us researchers, but it is also completely omitting any response at all from overseas members.

I'm not too far from London, but I find it difficult to get out of the house let alone get on a train.

So there are trained researchers? wow!!!

I'm pretty new to this but don't think I've done too bad in the last 6 months without training

They dont say they are researchers trained in Genealogy, to be fair.
Maybe just trained market reserchers to get the best out of 'the people'

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 15 Jul 2010 15:57

You have a point Minnie, didnt think of that as I was too "airyated"that it was not on the boards that are used by people "researching"their trees.

But in my opinion they could get the "best"out of the "people"on here if they ever listened to any of the suggestions we make, which they dont..

But for sure they will get a lot of people in on it that rarely use this site.

I have just emailed Support asking the following questions

I have several questions about this:-

1. Why was it not also stickied on Records, Tips and TTF?? Many people go only on these 3 boards and not on the ones on which you have stickied it. You have thus eliminated a large number of people who might be interested in attending. Was that deliberate??

2. Are you serious in that 16 members will be the ONLY members that you invite to participate?? SIXTEEN, out of the million or so active members (let alone the 11 million or so that have been members according to the accumulated membership numbers).

3. How may OVERSEAS members contribute to the discussion?? Are we to be "disenfranchised" from participating because we live outside the UK?? What about members in parts of the UK who could not easily get to London? You're happy enough to take our money, happy enough to have us helping other members ............ but not happy to have us taking part in discussions on how you might further change the site?

3. Some people are upset at the implication that the discussion groups are to be led by "trained researchers" ...... as if the members on here are not worth anything.

I will be interested to hear your response!

oooops .... just noticed I had two "3" points!!!!

Let's see if I get a response from them!!!

FGB - if the researchers are trained genealogist perhaps the members criteria on them should be the search/ find you did for Peter !! See if they figure it out

Have they got this Stickie on Facebook Irene?

If they REALLY want our opinions then why dont they make a thread on here and Facebook that we can add "one"post each to, of so many words?

Lol, whatever next, tee hee! :-))
Won't be applying, my time in London is too precious, spent mostly in LMA, looking up Wills, walking round Cemeteries and Churchyards and various roads, streets and avenues, all former addresses of ancestors, all in the name of love for this my favourite pastime! :-))
In other words too busy to help GR out, but really look forward to "even better site".
Sending Good Luck wishes to those who make it!, and perhaps us others might meet them at Olympia WDYTYA one day...

You guyz ...... the "trained researchers" really are trained market research / opinion research types.

Youse never done a focus group?

I used to do them here; got paid $50 and you got a sandwich for supper. I just did it out of curiosity, and because how often do you get paid to have an opinion? ;) I got to evaluate the federal govt's Environment department website, when they were just setting it up. I was thrilled when I found out what it was, when I got there, because I was doing a job right that day that needed a document from Environment -- but when they sat us at computers to check it out, I went to where it should have been, and there was nothing. This was the day when governments were just starting to set up websites! And that one was ugly and messy, and we told 'em so.

That's what it will be about. How easy is the site to use, is it good value for money, what improvements do you want, how do you rate "x" function on a scale of 1 to 10, etc. They may very well be testing out changes they want to make to the site.

Ta, Sylvia, keep it up.

And let us know which form letter you get in reply!

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 15 Jul 2010 17:47

Oh, and the "criteria".

For market research, they usually include household income and age (and making sure you don't work for a market research firm -- or Ancestry).

They may want a mix of newbies and old hands, so the screening questions might include something like how long you've been doing family research.

I got to the point where I'd ask the firms I was signed up with for surveys and focus groups (I won't do most market research, but things like opinions on municipal government plans are okay) to ask the rule-out question first. Like, if they're short of people under 40, and don't need any more over 40, ask me that now.

I once got all the way through the screening questions to the last one and got ruled out. No, I did not have a child under 18 with whom I had travelled to Cuba in the last year! But oddly enough, my neighbours across the street did. He was having a heck of a time filling that quota, so he got me to pass a message to them. There are actually lots of families here who holiday in Cuba on package vacations (my sister has twice in the last three years, and I used to travel around there on my own, and my brother lived there for two years), it just isn't easy to find them by cold calling, I guess. ;)

Once you're classed as " a paid trained researcher" guess you'd be open to all the insults and expectations that we know have cropped up on the boards before ... but this time you won't have the comeback that you are simply a volunteer and don't need to take such #*%!

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 15 Jul 2010 21:27

I have already emailed the address given and added my thoughts......mainly about the lack of clear guidelines for usage and the fact that the fantastic volunteer researchers are the main reason for the 'success' of this site.
