margaret Elizabeth Report 15 Jul 2010 16:29

Im trying to help my husband find his Grandmothers family.
Jane was the daughter of Henry Jones from Corris Merioneth.I think she was born 1899-1900.She gave birth to a son out of wedlock in Corwen Workhouse in 1915His name was Thomas Iorwerth Jones. Jane was kicked out of the family and we don't know where she went to but her son was brought up by the Grandfather. Are there any known relatives out there. How could We find out any info please?

FannyByGaslight Report 15 Jul 2010 16:59

So is it Thomas Iorwerths descendants you want to know about?

No,on second thoughts he must be your husbands father?

What was Henry Jones occupation and have you found them on 1911?

patchem

patchem Report 15 Jul 2010 23:05

There are 2 Jane Jones from Corris in the 1901 Welsh census, fathers John or Thomas.
Could someone be using a second name, do you know, or her Mother's name?
Thanks

But is it Jane or Henry that was born in Corris Patricia.?

That is not really clear I fear.

And Henrys occupation and maybe birth year would help a lot if known.

Then we may find them on census for Janes siblings and possibly follow some forward..
But with the name Jones it will be a fairly hard job.

Although at least with some names and ages etc of siblings a search of trees can be made to see if anyone has them..

About the towns/parishes....

Corwen spans the boundaries of the counties of Denbighshire and Merionethshire;

When Civil Registration was introduced (on 1 July 1837), the parish of Llangollen was assigned to the No. 2 ("Corwen") sub-district of the Corwen Registration District; which was co-extensive with the Corwen poor law Union.

Corris = Talyllyn

"TALYLLYN, a parish in the hundred of Estimaner, county Merioneth, 5 miles S.W. of Dolgelly, its post town, and 8 from Machynlleth. The village is situated on the river Mathew, under Cader-Idris and Arran-y-Gessel. The parish, which is of large extent, comprising 36,000 acres, includes Cedris, Ceuswyn, Corris, Llanerchgoediog, and Ystradgwyn.

The parish of Glyndyfrdwy was created in 1866, from the former Corwen townships of Carrog, Mwstwr, and Tir Llanerch along with portions of Bonwm and Rhagat. The parish was in the traditional county of Merionethshire until 1974 when it became part of the short-lived county of Clwyd. Following further local government re-organisation in 1996 it became part of the "new" county of Denbighshire.

Thank you all for looking .I know so very little about the family .Jane I believe was born in Corris Merioneth which would come under the Talyllyn district . I think her father Henry Jones woul have been working in t he slate quarry
at Aberllefenni --which is a village by Corris in Merioneth .I don't know where he was born but I know he died around 1962/3 .When my Husbands father ----Thomas Iorwerth Jones got married he lived with his grandparents at
14 Tai Uchaf Aberllefenni .I know that when my father in law was alive the family refused to discuss anything about his mother!

Nancy is often used as a pet name for Ann.

This is the only death I can find for around the time you say in the right sort of area with the right sort of age.

Name: Henry W Jones
Death Registration Month/Year: 1958
Age at death (estimated): 81
Registration district: Merioneth North
Inferred County: Merionethshire
Volume: 8c

Nothing around 1962 in Merioneth.

And nothing other than has already been posted on census.

Sorry

The dates dont add up?

Henry was 14 in 1901 if he was born 1887.

So Jane can not be his daughter if she had a child in 1915?
