Well whatever happened in their relationship at least we know now that Charles and Eliza didn't marry each other. She moved on to Marry Henry Charman and he married Elizabeth Collett. I'm wondering why she left the children behind as she doesn't appear to have had any more but maybe her new husband didn't want them..............who knows.

yes it is worth it, more and more data is coming online all the time, having the baptism and marriages for London is particulary useful and in the long run often saves having to buy the certificates from GRO.
Only thing with baptisms is that they don't give the mother's maiden name, but in the case of Thomas Meads it was handy that his middle name was his mother's maiden name!

Yes I had followed the meads family and found the various siblings , Thomas's second name showed me I was right in thinking Collett, but I couldn't find one from Wheatfield. So I thought it may have been one from Murcott . A Eliza Sturch Collett , glad you have put me on the right track Victoria.
But the question remains with Eliza Monk?

Elizabeth Collett's birth probably before official registration which start mid 1838 so best we would be able to do is find a baptism in Wheatfield Oxfordshire

Yes Astra that is correct , Ellen Williamson married Albert Williamson, just to make it difficult to keep track of which W belongs to which W, to make it harderher father was born Alfred William but prefered to be known as William Alfred . Williamson is hard enough without those distractions.

I have made contact , through a tree search, with a member who has Eliza Monk on his tree and we are going to find out as much as we can to sort this out. I will have to send for a Birth Cert for one of Charles' younger children to see if the Collett connection is a goer , but it is appearing that there is a connection with Eliza monk (they may just of had children together or been married (common law) and decided to call it off . We need to look closer.

We have a problem with Eliza Monk because I don't think she dies and leaves Charles a Widower. She is found in 1871 with her mother and "husband" Henry Charman. I'm reasonably sure it is her. Elizabeth Monk is noted as visitor and Harry Monk as Nephew. What do you think?
