Hi Sharon,

Have you e-mailed the archives people Email: [email protected]

When e-mailing them quote the reference numbers for John Beatty Beggs.

There is no way we can all trot off to Christchurch (gawd knows they could do with the tourist dollar down there) whenever we wanted to view something.

They will help you on there.... The only records I know that one has access on line at no cost is the downloading of some of the military that served in the wars. I could not find a birth record for someone born in NZ who served in WW1, but found him in there and was able to download a lot of information.

Cheers

Hi Persie, Hope all is well. It says open access to the record of the Will but I cant seem to open document to look at it and it says that you can go to the office and give the record details and view at the office but with me living in England UK I cant do this. It would be easy if I could view it over the internet but I dont know if the office puts them on line. Would you know if and how I can view the Will please.

Sharon

What happened, as around Christmas time you were trying to get hold of a copy of the will from the Archives held in Christchurch.

I know one was not able to access archives other than the minimum on line information February after the earthquake and since then. But that seems to be lifted now and access is back to normal.

I had a quick look and there seems to be no restrictions to access of the record.

Thank you Persey,

It would be great and I have tryed to get a copy of the Will of John Beatty Beggs 2/4/1938Boot Manufacturer says as I believe Wills hold more information on Family written in them, so I would like to be able to get a transcript of that in Christchurch, I found it on Archway. Happy New Year to you

The other Beggs listed in that Cemetery are Elsie May, Mary Elizabeth, Sarah Ann and Sinclair Thomas.

The offer is still open if you would like me to check out Errol, Barry & Robin - can do this next time I am in the City Library and look up the microfiche.

You have a happy and safe Christmas Sharonrose.

Thank you soooooooooo much this is great. I have been told that tracking a will of an ancestor can help with tracing your family as they put their family in them. I have traced my gggrandad John beatty Beggs will who died in april 1938 but probate not til 1944 on archway but it says that you can view records at the christchurch office but I cant as in England. So i cant get to view it. Is their anyway I can view the Will online like Northern Ireland does?

NZ does have a BDM website you can look at for free. If you want any certificates then you can order them which involves a fee. Website is bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz

......The 'Ask a Librarian' service is free ....the librarians have been very helpful. They will check their records/directories/electoral rolls and newspaper death notices. Do try the RAOGK too ....I'm sure they will be helpful.
