Find Ancestors

Hello there,

Could someone please look-up my relation Elizabeth Jewitt in the census for 1841, 1851 and beyond, as I would like to see what family she had and when she died (assuming she lived uptil 1841).

She was born in the Spring of 1799 in Slaley, Northumberland, and married Joseph Jewitt in Slaley, Northumberland in May 1818. She and Joseph had at least two children:

Joseph, born 1824 in Chollerton, Northumberland
Elizabeth, born 1827 in Chollerton, Northumberland

This is the last time I know of Elizabeth senior being alive, and I'd like to find out more.

Thanks Minnie - I'll investigate. Elizabeth is a sibling of an ancestor of mine, so I'm not directly looking into the extended Jewitt family, but if this is an easy task I may do so! As you say, it is an unusual name!

There is one dies in 1857 might or might not be her

So Joseph at least lived to a ripe old age! I'm going to log off for a while but I'll be back later!

Hmm, if son Joseph didn't die until 1911 could someone possibly look for him in the census from 1841-1911?

That might yeild clues about his parents?

I think Joseph Jr. married Jane first then Elizabeth. She's Jane in 1861, born 1832 and Elizabeth in 91, born 1841.
Could this be Joseph's second marriage?

It looks like Joseph went on to marry the housekeeper.

Sorry now for my late reply! Things can be quite hectic here, even though I am 'on holiday'. Margaret, thank you for the marriage information and Moody Blue, thank you for the census work you carried out! I admit I too was surprised to see Jane and Elizabeth 'interchange' but as you worked out, they are two different spouses of Joseph!

The only trouble with this seems to be that St John Lee, Northumberland (Joseph's birthplace in 1861) is near Hexham, and not that close to Chollerton where Joseph was baptised! Still, I suppose that people don't need to be baptised in their place of birth!

It is a shame we didn't find his parents in this space; I do wonder if they died young between the late 1820s and 1841?! Or even 1851? Thank you for discovering more about my relation Joseph!

Can anyone spot him in 1901 and 1911?

Even though he died in 1911, it was in the June district, so we should be able to see him!
