my grandma had 2 children out side marrage john firth born 1904 swinton yorkshire and mable firth born 1906 in swinton yorkshire she then went on to marry charles priestley he was 36 in 1908 she has increased her age at time to 25 perhaps because he was a lot older then her i know its right because of her address on her marrage cert dated 16th may 1908.I read some advice on this site saying to give a much info as possible my question is why cant i find any regestration of any of the childrens births all 4 of them and did she go on to have anymore children .thanks a lot chris

might be a good idea to ask someone to do 1911 census look up for them

Chris...Charles was born Stanley (Wakefield) 1868..he is listed as living Swinton on the 1901 Census but I cant find him in the intervening years..
Lily (1885) born Swinton but family living in Wath 1891..cant locate Lily anywhere on 1901 Census....
I dont have access to the Census to determine who Charles was living with at the time..(maybe it was Lily..???)

hi eringobragh lily is on the 1901 census still living at 5 wharfe st swinton with her mum ann and brother harry is also there, I have a year of birth for charles as 1872 also one for 1867 march can,t remember where i go the 1867 date from! so he was much older then her much! so was stanley his real first name,on there marrage cert hes living at 28 charles st swinton and she still at 5 wharfe st in 1908 he states his age as 36 which would him born in 1872 but as you know not all information given is true,thanks for your help chris

Christine, Stanley is a district in Wakefield so I think that Eringobragh meant that Charles was born there, not that that was his name.
I don't think it was at all uncommon around 1908 for women to have children out of wedlock and then to go on to marry older men who may perhaps be widowers looking for someone to care for them. I know this was certainly the case in my family. My great grandmother also lied about her age on her marriage cert. I think it was very common so I wouldn't discount anything yet.

Yes...Charles was listed as born in "Stanley" ..Wakefield.

no its say hes a bachelor i never thought of looking at that,charles Priestley dad is john priestley and lily firth dad is james firth both fathers are recorded as deceased thanks for helping regards chris
