You are welcome Kirsty,

I notice your other thread has loads more info added and so I have done a bit of work on this one today but had 5 year old grand-daughter for the past 2 days so haven't joined together yet what I have found.

I have a 'free day tomorrow' so will try to 'get to grips' with it and post what I have - no 'Spanish blood' found yet though, but, if it is there, I am sure we will find it !!

I don't believe we have the correct Charles Brown here on 1891 with widowed mother Ann.

It does look to be a very good fit, especially as he is a 'Sailor'. - I am not too bothered about the year of birth but the father is not right either??

I have followed this family back and Ann was definitely married to Henry who was a Sawyer.

1881:

BROWN, ***Henry Head Married M 54 1827 Sawyer Southampton Hampshire
BROWN, Ann Wife Married F 54 1827 Wincanton Somerset
BROWN, George Son Single M 21 1860 General Labor Landford Hampshire
BROWN, Edith Daughter Single F 18 1863 General Servant Battersea Surrey
BROWN, Ann Daughter Single F 16 1865 General Servant
Battersea Surrey
BROWN, Charles Son Single M 14 1867 General Labor Battersea Surrey

Charles wedding cert states that his father was John ( although there is a great deal of 'scribbling and crossing-out' on there).

Can anyone find another Charles please?

Wow, this thread has gone all over the place!

Ok firstly this is Sydney's birth?

Births Dec 1910
BROWN Sydney J Wandsworth 1d 531

There is mention of a step sibling Percy....was he older or younger than Sydney?

Somehow we have migrated onto Charles, and i don't know why...?

Kirsty, you say you want more details on Sydney....do you have his birth cert? This will give you all the accurate info your gonna need!

~~~~~~~~~
OK so we have Sydney in 1911?
1911 RG14PN2205 RG78PN75 RD26 SD2 ED17 SN71
Reg. District: Wandsworth Sub District: North West Battersea
Address: 10 Pearson St Battersea SW County: London
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BROWN, Charles Head Married M 41 1870 Naval Pensioner Battersea Surrey
BROWN, Beatrice Sarah Wife Married F 40 1871 Lambeth Surrey
BROWN, Percy Robert Foster Son Single M 22 1889 Packer Battersea Surrey
BROWN, Charles Henry Son M 12 1899 Battersea Surrey
BROWN, William Albert Son M 6 1905 Battersea Surrey
>>BROWN, Sydney James Son M 0 (6 MONTHS) 1911 Battersea Surrey
LARGE, Sophiam Visitor Single F 30 1881 Laundress Hessle Hull
ahhhh OK now i see where Charles comes in!
So then Charles and Beatrice are Sydney's parents.... and Dea has the marriage details posted.
~~~~~~~~~~
When people post data and give no explaination as to what they have found it gets very confusing.

So it looks like the vicar had made an error in the marriage book and instead of starting again he wrote over the top....silly man!

~~~~~~~~~~
Charles & Beatrice's first son Charles Henry's Baptism.
Name: Charles Henry Brown
Record Type: Baptism
Date: 23 Oct 1898
Father's Name: Charles Brown
Mother's Name: Beatrice Brown
Parish: Christ Church, Battersea
Borough: Wandsworth
County: Middlesex
Father Charles is listed as a Blacksmith RN (Royal Navy?) Living at 6 Simpson Street. Charles was born on Sept 20th 1898.
~~~~~~~~~
OK so in 1901 at that address we have this....

1901 RG number: RG13 Piece: 451 Folio: 66 Page: 15
Reg. District: Wandsworth Sub District: North West Battersea
Address: 6, Simpson Street, Battersea County: London
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FOSTER, Percy Son M 12 1889 Battersea
BROWN, Charles Son M 2 1899 Battersea
FOSTER, Alice Sister Single F 20 1881 Laundry Woman Westminster

NOw then Dea, can you not find Charles in 1891 because he's away at sea?

OK, got my head round most of it...

Dea,

How about this Charles?

1891 RG number: RG12 Piece: 319 Folio: 45 Page: 37
Reg. District: Poplar Sub District: Bromley
Address: 12, James Street, Bromley County: London
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BROWN, Charles Head Married M 35 1856 General Labourer Ongar Essex
BROWN, Elizabeth Wife Married F 54 1837 West Ham Essex
BROWN, Charles Son Single M 21 1870 Blacksmith Bromley London
BROWN, Alfred Son M 14 1877 Scholar Bromley London
BROWN, Henry Son M 12 1879 Scholar Bromley London

I know the London Borough is slightly out, but the age and occupation is correct? ...and i know the father isn't a John!

It's possible coming from that area in those times, that Charles invented his father?
