im trying to find parents of a betsy or elizabeth ruff i found on family searh her name was ruff and is married to thomas thorn 1n 1827 they have 5 children all are in parish in modbury thomas parents are called joseph thorn and grace collings these details are in modbury parish st georges churc
i am trying to find her but not able to et into other parishes as it says she was in modbury when all children born and chritened but there are no ruffs listed in that parish

thomas thorn was born in 1801 modbury betsy ruff wa born 1908 lived in modbury all childen betsy- mary= sarah- james- john all in modbury parish with thomas and betsy as parents i emailed the parish and they said she was not in thier parish but said she could of been with one of other parishes but not able to get into

i found they lived on brownston street modbury 1841 but no numberthe only elizabeth ruff the ancestory brought up for those dates was elizabeth ruff 29 sept 1809 st mary le bone london father john mother sarah but london is a bit far from london so dont know as it does say on census that she was born in modbury

i have tried a variaion of the name ruff but nothing still seems to come up on ancestry ofr family search apart from children all show with mother just as betsy and another for wedding again only with betsy

ok just seen your post, do you know what year the youngest child was born, is it before 1837 or after? Is just a thought, If after 1837 is possible that you may be able to find the registration on birth index and you can then get the birth certificate.

children were born 1828-1830-1833-1835-1837 were the dates christened

youngest 1828 eldest 1837 all born modbury

Have y ou actually found all of them together on the census records, have been looking at the 1841 census and they are a few children that look like they are living on their own lol no other family members living with them which is strange. Anyway, do you have the name and correct year for each child as have tried looking on the lds site and nothing is coming up with correct location.

it does say they got maried in modbury 18 september 1827

i851 census has mother betsy and children only have christning dates sorry
in house hold betsy 42 betsy 18 james 13 mary 8 john 6 sarah 3
but all children born in modbury and are listed in modbury chapel

the ones i have on census from 1851 works out children are older than what they would be in parish records
maybe wrong children off census as the parish records must be more correct on census they are all olderat the parish they have children named joseph 1828

on census the children are different 1851 betsy mother betsy daughter james son mary rachel daughter john son sarah 3 i need to follow these children as mary racheal thorn is the name of my last grandma married to thomas cox (silcox)
i think im looking for a different betsy not sure

i have gone back into parish in modbury put in mary racheal thorn it has come up with one as mary racheal born 1809 but parents are joseph nd mary

I have found this for a James thorn, Kingsbridge is the registration district, but after looking up the area Modbury is also within the same area.

I see what y ou mean by how difficult they are to find, am looking on the 1841 census and haven't found anything that matches what you have as of yet. also have been looking at birth/christining for betsey ruff to see if parents details comes up too but nothing. Is it possible that she wasn't from around that area, but moved there later on in life before she married?
