I have now had time to read you post in full this is so interesting and when my father comes up for his 80th birthday I shall be able to tell him for the first time that his grandfather was ashale labourer hard work and possible he died through work, it must have been unusual for poor families to be insured in those days. this is new to me.

I could not read the certficate of the screen and have not got this laptop attached to a printer, my husband is not interested in this stuff and no reason why he should be when one of my sons is home shall get hooked up, in themean time dea have forwarded your mail to hubbys office and am sure he will print it out. I feel excited and am on mission to find out h.ow my fathers grandfather died

His 1899 death record at SP will be viewable like the marriage certificate -- all my credits have expired so I can't help. But if you do want to know his cause of death, that's what you'll have to look at!

I still can't find Christina in 1881 for love nor money, so my hands are showing me up. ;)

You're lucky to be able to tell your dad things, Lorraine. I tell my mum things all the time, but my dad died 7 years ago, just months before I discovered all this genealogy on line. Tell him we're glad to have helped!

sorry to hear you dad passed away but am sure he knew you were searching and that will have pleased him. I shall need to copy and paste so i can so my dad in a form he can read easily but i shall pass it on and he is already taking an interest. He manahed three grocers shops that were hugely popular and am trying to trace photos of them through an edinburgh site. it helpsme to understand who he is and where he came from clearly very poor folk way back.
