Alan these people are not in my tree I looked it all up on sites such as ancestry find my past and freebmd

If someone else has different details could you ask where they got them from?

I would get the birth certificate for sister Mary Elizabeth Hardman as well as those marriage certificates.

Births Dec 1892
Hardman Mary Elizabeth Leigh 8c 288

Looks like probably her. Again, to see what it says for mother Margaret's names.

To sort it out, you have got to get certificates. We all do. ;)

I know mind-boggling! It took me months to do it, but I finally figured out that my own mother's surname is totally fake, because her grandfather switched his sometime around 1878.

It's these little twists and turns that make it interesting.

Alan -- did you read my post at the bottom of page 2 explaining who "we" are here?

Ah, jax -- I was trying to figure out that 1901 --

Edward Murphy 24 >> Margaret's brother
Margaret Hardman 34
Mary Elizth Hardman 8
Thos Daniel Hardman 12

Right, so she was definitely unmarried when she married Edward Hardman, but Thomas could have been registered/baptised as Hardman if he was Thomas's father.

You will get the hang of it Alan, but please do not take as gospel what anyone else has on their tree unless you can be sure it is correct

I get it -- jax -- when Alan said "you've got te right people in your tree", he meant "one has the right people in one's tree". ;)

District: Leigh
County: Greater Manchester, Lancashire
Volume: 8c
Page: 385

along with

marriage

Especially the first marriage certificate, to get Margaret's age and father's name.
