Sorry Rob,
I'm on the other side of the world and by 4.40am I finally had to go to bed I was so tired.
But many many thanks indeed for your terrific help.
No I don't have Ancestry or FMP (??)
I had picked up the name Hannah but thought I was still on the wrong track so let it be for a long while but am all revved up again.

Ah! There lies the problem - FreeCen seems to have zero coverage for Surrey before 1871.
Do you have Ancestry or FMP?

What seems to be them has Joseph is shown on there, with Ann (down as Hannah - often shortened to Ann/Anna).
On 1841, Joseph (Barge Builder) 35 (rounded ages in 1841), with Hannah 30,
Maria 15,
Joseph 15,
John 10,
Alfred 5,
Elizabeth 5,
Sarah 1.
The same family are in 1851, but the ennumerator's writing is quite tough, so will take some deciphering.
By 1861 Hannah/Ann has died.

Ancestry London baptisms has (in addition to those mentioned previously:
Maria Sarah Rogers bt.1826
Joseph Edward bt.1827
John Stephen bt.1830
(Then the two mentioned in a previous post)
Elizabeth Hannah bt.Dec 1837
Sarah Ann bt.Jun 1840
Ann bt. Dec 1842 (was Sarah Ann, but Sarah crossed thru)
All (including other two) are at St.Mary's Lambeth
All show Joseph as Barge Builder
The use of Ann and Hannah is interchanged (possibly a different vicar)

The Elizabeth Hannah birth certainly seems to have an equivalent in FreeBMD, poss the one for Sarah too.
Should be enough to get you started.

Many thanks for that Rob. Have been through Family Search without luck, keep checking FreeCen but can't find anything in 1841 and I've actually just now got FreeBMD screen up as well to have a look but I worry that I have the wrong family.
I've got son William's Marriage and death Cert but it only showed his father's name.
Many thanks and will check that out now.

??? When you say not successful, who/what have you tried that hasn't been successful.
There seems to be suitable entries in FreeBMD for their next couple of children.

Thanks Shirley, Rob.
Have tried for other children but haven't been successful.

I would suggest getting the birth cert for one of their later children (born after 1837) - sometimes you have to go sideways to go backwards! Looking at the 1841 + 1851 censuses, there seems to be a few likely options.

Many thanks Rutland Belle, however I was hoping like mad to find out mother Ann's maiden name.
Have been looking for over a year but come up with the wrong one all the time.
