Yes well done, Catherine, without the birth index for Elsie Adelaide we would all have been still looking for just Adelaide.
Best Wishes

Just checking in and see that we have moved on quite a bit. Glad to see the birth I found for Elsie Adelaide was the correct one. My next check was going to be 1911 for Elsie but I see you've beaten me to it.
Well Done everyone.
Catherine!

thanks for that, not sure elsie's full name was Elsie Adelaide Dutton born 1903, think her parents both died in 1906 so she wouldnt be living with anyone as daughter, in 1911.

allegedly (rumours in family) she was sent to the barnshaw side her mothers while the boys her brothers did indeed go to the Dutton side. A knotty ball of string I know, sorry.

thanks so much to everyone

On the BMD indexes, the mother's maiden surname is not indexed until around 1912. Your John's birth is registered as John Barnshaw Dutton so he didn't just adopt the Barnshaw after his mother's death.

Perhaps Elsie in 1911? Sorry I don't have credits to see who she is living with.

HOUSEHOLD DUTTON ELSIE F 1903 8 Nantwich Cheshire

leesle Report 30 Sep 2010 08:34

also freebmd is showing that John Barnshaw Dutton born 1900 doesnt have mothers maiden name barnshaw.

He is the only one with this full and complete name...its very difficult if a family absolutely believe something from such a long time ago. I think his name was just John Dutton mmn barnshaw, and he took her maiden name after her death

hi she was supposedly a black sheep there was some falling out, think she had a baby and she wasnt married. They thought it was the end of the world and cut her off, no idea what happened to her after that.

thanks

Catherine

Catherine Report 29 Sep 2010 17:39

To be absolutely sure it's her you would need to buy the cert.

Do the family know if she married or had any children?
