Head S from Chatsworth on route 6 to Williamsford 6 m away.
A mile before you get there, head E on Walker Side Rd to Concession Rd 2, then S for 3 lots.
Lot 37 has a huge dirt parking lot. I don't see any existing structures on lot 38.

Well what can I say? It was late last night I got back here to find that – “http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1911/pdf/e001988049.pdf “ had been sent, and maybe because I was tired got nowhere with it. This morning on starting again I found that two “http://”s were being entered.

But when I got it right! That surely is Jeremiah. The head of the household here is unreadable though. If I can sort that out I shall present it to Barnardos to see if they will confirm it.
Got so excited this morning that when I went out I forgot half my shopping.

The version I gave you shows the transcription done by automatedgenealogy together with the pdf document mgnv has linked to. It is the same thing. Did you not look at it when I posted it?

I can pretty easily read it as Tranthen. DOB is November 1903, born England, immigrated 1910.
I think that's him.

The name isn't unreadable, it is McLEOD. Just as Jeremiah is JERRY TRANTHEN. Although Ancestry.ca has transcribed the household (as Rose posted) as utter nonsense:

Hi Janey, yes you are absolutely right it is the same, my excitement at that time was that it was the first time I had seen the Census sheet.

You had presented me with all the information earlier but I was prevented seeing it by my lack of computer skills. The mistake I made was in putting the address into Google. The feedback I got from doing that caused me to go all over the place, I kept trying so many things and doing lord knows what and seemingly to be picking up all sorts of nasties on the way. I have mentioned the Trojans.

In fact as a result of what I had been doing my computer began to play up all over the place. I managed to download AVG to discover and get rid of the rubbish I had collected but had to get the PC into the hands of a technician in the end.

Everything that you had told me was there but I didn’t get to it. There was nothing wrong with your address; it was the way that I was using it. I now know where I went wrong, but, a steep learning curve. When I send a site address in an email or in a Word document it turns blue and is active only needing to be clicked on for the site to load, it’s a pity this is not so in posts.

I was convinced that you had found Jeremiah and am very sorry if I led you to think otherwise

Yes, this site is indeed like something out of the early 1990s. Not providing the capacity to post clickable links is pretty much unbelievable in this day and age.

I'm glad mgnv managed to read the concession address on the census page, because I didn't want to guess at it. ;)

The census district where the family is in 1911 is Holland, in Grey East county. (And yes, it took me close to forever to find that census entry.) These days, there are McLeod-s in Chatsworth, which is very nearby, and some may in fact be at the same location as that 1911 household.

So ... that's why I'm suggesting contacting the McLeod-s listed in the Canadian phone book in Chatsworth, Ontario.

There were 2 points to my post - I'll say more abt the first when the AG site is back online.

The 2nd point was to add mere corroborative detail, intended to give artistic versimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

Specifically, I wanted to enable you to see why Janey should be so keen on McLeod's from Chatsworth, although Williamsford is equally likely (without checking the phone book).

AG's back - So yes, Janey, I know your post contain the AG URL, but I think that folk like to save the census images.

I know one can use the AG URL and save the complete web page and then open
SplitView.jsp_files
or whatever you called it if you changed the default, and copy the big .pdf file sitting there and paste it somewhere else, then delete SplitView.jsp_files and SplitView.jsp.htm, but I think this is outside many posters experience, so I gave the direct LAC URL.

I do admit that when I added the immig 1910, I'd forgotten you'd given that.

Yes it’s badly in need of a face lift too. And why can’t I include graphics here, it would be useful to be able to include a table and such. Photographs are accepted on people’s trees.

But I can’t complain too much after all I am receiving a Master Class here from all of you, for which I am extremely grateful.

Using your information Janey - i.e., Grey and Holland, I thought cemeteries (I’m beginning to think of them more often lately!) and found this site:

And searching the database found that perhaps the family name is not McLeod but McComb. McLeod returns 248 names, but no Clifford whilst McComb returns only 15 and they are all there. The rest could be family?

Ah, interesting! It was vague and I did just rely on automatedgenealogy for that one -- but peering at it again, yes indeed, McComb looks good. And that goes well with whatever Ancestry's reading was -- not so bizarre as it seemed, now. ;)

And there is one McComb listing in Holland Centre. Since I have it open, I'll paste it into a PM and send it.
