Thank you kindly for your words of wisdom Tracey. I will take on board what you have said and take myself off to the British Library.....

Sadly, back then birth registration were not compulsary...so if they didn;t get round to one of them, you can be sure it's the one you want.

The only way to get answers is to go down to the British Library and find them!

This site will help explain more!

Nicky

Nicky Report 12 Oct 2010 11:03

Nicky Report 12 Oct 2010 10:50

Nicky

Nicky Report 12 Oct 2010 10:49

I am certain that they must be the parents of Minnie. I read somewhere she was born 1880, dnt ask me where i got that from, can't remeber. Maybe she wasn't baptised? She was defo brn in Barllie? nor sure of spelling defo India, her daddy was in the army as prev stated. This is v exciting!

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 12 Oct 2010 10:33

OK.
If everyone is certain sure that Michael John Carney and Jane Ann are Minnie Amelia Carneys parents even though her baptism has not been found ,then I will look for one of the other childrens birth records to send for so Jane Anns maiden name can be found out.
Big gap between 1864 and 1878 though, but of course fertility is starting to wane and miscarriages and stillborns may have happened.

Nope, not a one of them appear on FMP overseas births.

I have also checked ScotlandsPeople for service returns, again ,nothing.
Nor incoming passengers on Ancestry.

Going on the list of children it looks like the family are having 1 child roughly every 3 years, which is about right...1854, 56, 59, 61, 64 and then your relative Minnie.

Tracey x

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 12 Oct 2010 08:16

Well.

Just adding my 2 penneth worth in, could he have not been part of the military by the time Amelia was born and he had maybe taken up a residency position in local government?

I know ALOT of my Skinner lot went over to india early to late 1800's and none of their births are on the military indices, instead they are all on local records. I suppose it will be base on whether they were 'stationed' there or whether they were 'living' there!!

If your lot were actually living in India and taking part in local government the births will not be on the military paperwork.

We now know the mother's forenames are Jane Ann, and that she married Michael John Carney, we also, it appears, have at least 2 siblings to your relative, the earliest being born in 1854.

It takes time Nicky to find it all.... give us more time and we'll hopefully find you answers!

I am checking everything I can think of on FMP for Nicky Shirley..

No Michael Carney of that regiment on Chelsea Pensioners.

But Im not trawling for a marriage with nothing definite for dates as that is as bad as looking for Mr Jones..

Edits.
Rechecked for her birth ref on FMP ,but still nothing.
