Anne Report 24 Oct 2010 22:35

my gt. grandparents Thomas Power, Dublin and Letitia Coleman, Meath, married in Birkenhead in May 1861, and Thomas was born in 1862, Charles Maher and Anne Mearns were in Naas in Kildare in October 1871 for the birth of my grandmother Anna Maria Maher.
They came on to Liverpool for the next child's birth and the rest of their lives. All 4 Irish gt. grandparents lived and died in Liverpool my own home town.

I only have William Power book keeper, and Richard Coleman farm steward to take me further back. although it is possible that Charles had a son John 1845 by another wife.
Would love to get further back.
thanks for all the help I'm getting. Anne Power

Anne...Was it Anne Gannon that Charles married (1868 Reg.Naas) ?

Eringobragh1916 Report 25 Oct 2010 10:45

Anne
Have eventually found Anne Marie's birth Oct.'71 (IGI) mothers name Mearns....cannot find a corresponding Marriage.

Anne

Anne Report 25 Oct 2010 22:45

Sorry I didn't check sooner. I have the birth certificate of their son Charlie born in Liverpool 2 years later and have Mearns as Anne's name already from that.
I have all their census returns in Liverpool to the parents' deaths. And Annie's death in 1914.
Her brother disappears from the records after their mother's death in 1906.

I have got nowhere with any of the Irish addresses sadly.
I tried phoning several. The naas email bounced every time.
It would be good to find a marriage for Charles Maher and Anne Mearns. I also wonder was Annie their first child or not. They were older than average parents for those times. It could be a second marriage for one or both of them.
Another point is that I have most up to date trees on ancestry, (Power, Ward and Charlton Trees) cos I find the Genes system less easy.

Thanks again.
Anne.

Anne Report 2 Dec 2010 00:51

I have updated my genes tree a bit more now.

And been contacted by another family enthusiast who thinks her ancestor John Maher, born in Ireland in 1845 who is the son of a Charles Maher might be my Charles Maher's son by an earlier marriage.
it is entirely feasible and both were tailors and they lived in the same small street, Swan St. Old Swan, Liverpool in 1873 to 1874 at least. Charlie Maher was born there and so was Mary Ellen Maher who may also have been the witness at my grandmother's wedding in 1893.

Can anyone verify this for me please?

and hope I haven't got things wrong again.

Anne Report 2 Dec 2010 10:31

dear Thistledown,

My first message to you seems to have disappeared, but I am delighted cos you have found my missing gt. uncle, Charlie Maher in Dublin. He is re-married after the death of his first wife in England.

I can't see a connection with any of the other people. Unless 16 yr. old Charles at St. Kevins is really 6 years old, then he could be Charlie's son.

How can I find descendants of Charlie and Mary Ann Maher, please?

I have another Irish research problem. Charles Maher senior born 1823 may be the father of John Maher also a tailor born in Ireland in 1845 and they both lived in the same small street in Old Swan, Liverpool where Charlie junior was born. Can this parentage be traced, please?

Thanks ever so much
Anne

Now waiting to hear more from the extended family.

Miracles are happening.

Anne Report 20 Mar 2011 07:30

Hello everyone,

I'm wondering whether Anne Mearns/Maher my gt. grandmother 1831? to 1906. was married twice.
Mearns was presumably her maiden name and maybe she was widow Gannon marrying Charles Maher in Naas in 1868. What do you think of that
idea?

best wishes and thanks to all.

Anne

Anne Report 26 May 2012 06:00

all this time on and I now have the marriage certificate for Charles Maher and Anne Mearns in August 1870 in St.Mary's Cathedral Dublin.

Both were widowed.

Anne is Anne CULLEN

So am needing the marriage details for Anne Mearns , father William Merins and a Cullen. Anne Cullen was a servant in 114 Lower Gardiner St. Dublin at the time of her second (or last ) marriage in 1870.
Still looking for the parents of John Maher 1845 Ireland, believing Charles resident in Naas at one time, to be his father and James Maher shoemaker his grandfather. Both Charles and John were tailors and lived in Swan St. Liverpool and died in Liverpool. Anne was godparent to John's children.

Eringobragh1916 Report 26 May 2012 07:31

Anne Cullen was the daughter of William CULLEN and Marie Merrin

Name CAROLUS MAHER ANNA CULLEN
Address NAAS 114 LR GARDINER
Occupation N/R N/R
Father JACOBI MAHER GULIELMI CULLEN
Mother MARIAE ? MARIAE MURRIN (Merrin)

Anne

Anne Report 26 May 2012 08:27

Wow. thank you.

But what does it mean?

Charles Maher married Anne Cullen (1870)
he was from Naas and she from Gardiner St.Dublin

Charles' father was Jacob (or James??) and Anne's was William Cullen????
Charles' mother Mary??? and Anne's mother Mary Murrin/Merrin ?????????

What record is this, please?

The marriage certificate which I have a photo of says her father was Wlliam Merins. She gave Mearns as her maiden name on both her last children's birth certificates.

Did her parent not marry?

I am so puzzled. Look forward to hearing from you again.
