Middy Report 31 Oct 2010 17:51

Hi Tracey

Mmmm nibbles always good on a Sunday I am just cooking my dinner at the moment, just looking for anything regarding the mum and dad if possible of Anna Maria Quested nee Jardine, all I know is that the mum and dad are James Jardine and Elizabeth (but don't know her maiden name unfortunately, marriage cert for Anna Maria confirms her dad's occupation as a tobacco cutter and she resided at 6 Anthony Street I presume in St George in the East in 1837, but can't seem to find the Jardine's on the census either (hope this makes sense) xx

I will be back on later so don't think I am not grateful for your help if I disappear for a bit

xx

I'd nipped to Asda for essential nibbles for a lazy Sunday in.... so back on it now then.

Apart from the census, what are you missing we might be able to find for you?

Hi Maureen

James Quested and Anna Maria Jardine are my Great Great Grandparents - it is a nightmare with the transcribing, just makes it so difficult to find them - at least I am have them on the census for 1841 and 1851 now

Gosh, what a slippery lot!!!! Is one a direct relative,Middy-or are you just connected through the Jardines? (Good spot on them in 1841,Tracey!!!)

I have Ounsted(s) in my line and they're quite frequently mangled into something quite different as well.

Good luck!

Thats the thing with them using any of their names, it get's confusing as to whether it is the same person or not

Well, as that is the 1841 census, and registration started in 1837, finding his death will mean a full death cert (rather than a simple burial entry) This could reveal the name of the informer as the second wife?

.... or simply did Elizabeth have the middle name of Sarah she prefered to use?

Hi Tracey

That is the marriage for Sarah Maria Quested, many thanks, that's interesting with the other people on the census ie; Jardine - may mean that James remarried as Anna's parent were James and Elizabeth - interesting

....and Ancestry hasn't given you the entire household!

This is what FindMyPast has for the same record, i have not edited anything other than tidying up the crappy lines.

1841 RG number: HO107 Piece: 696 Book/Folio: 10/36 Page: 27
Reg. District: St George, East Sub District: St Mary
Address: St George Court, St George, Tower Hamlets County: Middlesex
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
QUESTED, James M 30 1811 Middlesex
QUESTED, Anna F 30 1811 Middlesex
QUESTED, Mary F 2 1839 Middlesex
QUESTED, George M 1 1840 Middlesex
>>JARDINE, Jas M 70 1771
>>JARDINE, Sarah F 70 1771
SCOTT, Chas M 20 1821 Middlesex
SCOTT, Caroline F 20 1821 Middlesex
SCOTT, Harriet F 4 1837 Middlesex

....and as you can see Anna Maria had her parents living with them!

Caroline could be a sibling to Anna Maria.

That census that Maureen put up for the 1841 does read Quested. These transcribers have an awful lot to answer for don't they????
