Could this be their marriage as you mentioned a family story about McLean.

Oh my, Christine 1925? No wonder I couldn't find a marriage! They had a number of children between Jane and 1930, my mother being one in 1927!
Ok, so now I need to send for this marriage cert in 1925, presumably Mary Ellen is called McLean on this and is a widow.
Then, I still need to know which name Jane was registered under in 1914.
Then I need to check for a Farrell/McLean marriage?

ChristineinPortugal

ChristineinPortugal Report 31 Oct 2010 15:43

I haven't been able to find a Farrell/McLean marriage.

At least they were married by the time your mother was born, lol.

Christine.

Georgina Report 31 Oct 2010 15:51

Yes, I can rest easily now as a good Catholic girl! Lol.
If McLean was Scottish or Irish and the marriage wasn't in England, would the details be on BMD?

ChristineinPortugal

ChristineinPortugal Report 31 Oct 2010 15:54

Only England and Wales marriages are on the indexes.

Scotlands people for Scottish BMD's.

Hi Jax,
I've just looked on BMD for my mother's birth in 1927 (Jane's sister) and Farrell is incorrectly spelt as Farrill.

ChristineinPortugal

ChristineinPortugal Report 31 Oct 2010 16:11

The one in 1927 is Farrill.

Just wondering then if Jane was incorrectly registered under Farrill. I can't find anything for her using the correct date of birth given earlier under Farrell or Long.

jax Report 31 Oct 2010 16:16

I did think that could be the case but was just checking

Robert Mclean married A/M/J 8d 173 1911 in Salford Lancs on same page is Mary E Jones.

Mary Ellen Farrell married J/A/S 1909 Chorlton Lancs 8c 1525 on same page is Charles William Jones.

What do you think ladies?

Well ladies,
Many thanks for all your help. That let a skeleton out of the cupboard didn't it? How wonderful!
I'm going to send off for Jane's death certifcate now which should give me her birth name and someone has already established her date of birth so I presume I can get the birth certificate with that info.
Next, I shall send for Mary Ellen's marriage certificate and delve deeper into her interesting past!
Once again,
Thank you x

I thought it was a possibility seeing as we can't find her in 1911.

Although I have been checking births for Farrell/Jones in that time span and there were Charles W Jones 1912 nee Farrell, maybe named after his dad and twins Doris and Elsie Jones nee farrell 1913.

If Mary Ellen and Mr Mclean had child Patrick Mclean nee farrell 1913 it seems that the Mary Ellen who married Charles William Jones is not our Mary ellen afteral.

Not trying to confuse you, just trying to make sense of why we can't find Mclean/Farrell marriage.

Maryb.

Me thinks I need my tea, curry house shortly.
