Find Ancestors

I am trying to find about my grandmother, born 1901. I have her marriage certificate, but cannot find her on either the 1901 or 1911 census transcripts, as the father's name on the marriage certificate (Alfred King, deceased) does not tie in to the only census entry I can find in the 1911 census transcript (Edward). I do notice however, that there are other details probably falsified on the certificate. My grandfather gave his age as 21 when in fact he was 19.
If I can't rely on this marriage certificate, how can I find out more about my grandmother?
I notice that on the 1911 census transcript, there is no line on the entry about Maud Alice King for 'Relationship to Head of Household'. Is there any significance in this, please?

Hello Alan, on the original census form there is a "ditto" under "daughter" for her sister, meaning Alice Maud is actually a daughter of Edward Warnell King and Rosina King.

From the replies to my query I did not make myself plain. I found the entry you refer to for myself, and suspect that this must be the correct entry as there do not seem to be any others in the register of births around 1900. But this leads to another possible innaccuracy in the marriage certificate. My cousins inform me that my grandmother was born in 1901 which agrees to the register of births (Jan/Mar 1901). This would make her 18 in 1919, not 19. Would there be any reason for this? If I can't rely upon the cross check of the fathers details from the marriage certificate to relevant censuses, how can I clinch it? Certificate states Alfred,deceased, censuses (1901 and 1911) state Edward.Hence my question whether there is any significance in there being stated no relationship to head of household in the 1911 census. As Alfred was deceased, could she have been living with an uncle (Edward)or other relation?

My grandfathers name is Thomas Richard Renshaw.

Alan, just as a matter of curiosity, did your grandparents actually sign the marriage certificate themselves, or did they just make their mark?

My reason for asking is that I've found in my own research that there is a correlation between the accuracy of the information on such certificates and the level of literacy of the people in question.

A possibility?

I know you said Alfred King was deceased on the marriage cert, but did it say what his occupation had been?

Alan, on the bottom left of the copy of the original on that certificate there should be a bit where it says "This marriage was solemnized between us" and then they would sign their names. If they were unable to write then there is usually an X and the official would have filled the names in.

Oh well, thanks for checking and ruling out the marriage anyway.

Still looks like the Alfred who 'married' Alice Maud was deceased by census 1911.
