Hi, Thanks for all the information.

Yes, Ozibird I did mean no mention of Annie and Sarah on the 1911, when the family were back with the grandma. From the info that you have provided it would appear that Annie and Sarah married. I find the breakdown of all of this information so confusing, I hope this researching will get easier with time!
Can you tell me if this breakdown is the log of the marriage to Uttley? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I just can't understand why Needham is the predominant name (in capitals)???
Marriages Jun 1908
NEEDHAM Samuel Bradford 9b 195
Otway Annie Elizabeth Bradford 9b 195
Parker Bertha Lydia Bradford 9b 195
Uttley Fred Bradford 9b 195
Any explanation would be greatly appreciated.

These are just the two marriages listed on that particular register page. You can't tell by looking at it which bride married which groom, but can always try crossreferencing with the next census.

Annie Otway in theory could have married either Needham or Uttley, but the later census info supported Uttley.

AS far as I know there is no significance in some surnames being capitalised, It's just a FBMD quirk, unless someone else knows otherwise, in which case I wll stand corrected.

Thanks for that Kucinta, that explains things a lot clearer. When I was trying to do my own searches and info like this was coming up, I was dismissing it 'cos I was thinking it was the wrong person...
it's just taking me so long to get the hang of all of this!

Glad to have been of help.

If you look at the possble marriage for Sarah Otway that Ozibird posted, it looks like she decided between the two possible bridegrooms by looking for children with their surnames and a mother maiden name Otway, and came up with Walter Smith rather than Walter Jackson as the likely husband.

Sometimes the only way to find out is to send for the actual marriage cert, but Ozibird has admirably demonstrated how a little cross-referencing with other sources can sort it out without having to resort to that.

Thanks, Kucinta.

Chevaun, this is so second-nature to me now that I forget new researchers can't follow what I'm doing. Kucinta explained it perfectly.

The capital letters for an index name on the freebmd website means that entry has been double checked by two different transcribers, therefore likely to be exact. That doesn't mean the others are not right. They just haven't been double-checked yet.

Thanks Kucinta and Ozibird.
The time and effort you have both put into researching George and family on my behalf and also explaining to me your findings is very much appreciated.
