You would only get that information if you had a death certificate.... but I will look in those cemeteries we can access - not all have a database and a lot are in church yards so are hard to find. If she is his wife they did not get married in NZ prior to 1956 - have checked that database.

Hi Perce,

Are you able to tell me what area Douglas and Winnifred Creek died in?

Thankyou,

Peter - They were probably relatives of Wyatt's.

Sorry - my error - the 1907 birth is Creech, not Creek

Persephone Report 11 Nov 2010 06:07

The sum total of our Creek deaths
is Joseph in 1957, his wife Winnifred Rose b 07 Dec 1910, died 1985

and a Douglas Edgar Creek died 1971 aged 67 - not born in NZ nor married here

and I assume a Winnifred May Creek to be his wife or sister not born here either she died 1976 (her birth date is 05 Oct 1903.)

There are a few people named Creeke though but no Kathleen.

No marriage or death for Kathleen Creek.

There are only 2 Creek marriages prior to 1956.
One being Joseph and the other a Maxwell Joseph in 1956.

Im sorry Loraine that when I mentioned I knew of an adoption you thought I was talking about your man.

No I wasnt. I was just letting you know the original birth reg.is taken off

This was for my dau in laws grandfather who was born 1909 but adopted 1 year 11 months later. Dau in law has just seen the adoption papers giving all the details including his fathers name which he never knew

Would it be possible to look and see if there is a marriage or death for Kathleen Ethel Maud Creek?
It will be appreciated.

Hi Peter,

Thankyou for that bit of information.
Can you tell me where you found this information?
I have searched all NZ sites for BDM and have come up empty handed. 1907 could perhaps be the connection.
Cheers,
Loraine

There is an illegitimate Bernard Creek registered in 1907 - possible connection - mother is Kathleen Ethel Maud Creek

Hi,

Are you able to tell me anything about the adoption?
How did you find out that the name could be Creek?
You have me completely at your mercy with this news. Does it say how old the child was when adopted?

If this is perhaps the same person it may be why he never talked about his own family to his children. His children think that he was born October, 1906.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers,
Loraine

I know of an official adoption in New Zealand in 1911 and the childs original birth registration is removed

Hi,

I have sent an email to the peron on GR - no reply to date.
Fingers XX.
I have no idea if he was adopted. I just wish I could find something - something will turn up eventually.

Cheers

You asked where you can find the photo of Joseph Creeke.
Its PapersPast NZ
The article says he was Superintendant of the Wellington fire brigade and was born in New Zealand but for some years did duty in the Sydney Metropolitan Brigades]
There is also another article in Evening Post 24th Nov 1932
Inquiry about Joseph Creeke alleged using petrol ,supplies and material out of the brigades stores for his and his sons cars

Another article Fighting Fires Evening Post 15th Jan 1927 states Joseph Creeke came over from the Circular Quay Fire Station Sydney the previous year

Might be worth getting the Joseph d 1948's death cert to see if there are any clues....

Loraine Report 9 Nov 2010 08:46

Hi Julie Anne,

Winifred was married twice. First to my grandfather Arthur and then to Joseph Creek. I am wondering if Joseph who died 1948 was his father. Apparently Joseph Jr did not tell his children anything about his family. They all thought that he had been alienated from the family for a long time and a very young age. I would dearly like to be able to put together some information about this amn not just for myself but for his children. My father was the son of Arthur and Joseph was his step-father.

Cheers,
Loraine

Hi,

This is correct.

Interestingly enough the judge at a later date threw out a lot of the allegations made by the "bride". He served 6 months in total. The judge did not believe there was any duress on behalf of the "bride"as she knew that he was already married. Who knows the exact truth as there are no survivors to tell. Still it was an interesting story.

Cheers, Loraine

Hi,

What website did you find this photograph?
I have a feeling my step-uncle said at one time that my Joseph's father had the same name as his.
I have tried all forms of the name Creek but not once did I put an Ë"on the end.
Thanks
Loraine
