But wait! There's more! :-D

David Rollston, who died in 1912 in Charters Towers aged 68, was a mining magnate and rather well off. His estate was 2850 pounds realty and 71 831 pounds personalty.

He was a senior partner in the firm Bright & Co and director of several other mining companies. He was elected Mayor in 1907.

There is a rather nice obituary for his wife too -

Townsville Daily Bulletin, Tuesday 7 September 1948
Mrs. David Rollston, a former well known resident of Charters Towers passed away in Sydney last Saturday at the home of her eldest daughter. Mrs. Higgins, 56 Cranbrook Street, Bellevue Hill. Mrs. Rollston was the widow of the late David Rollston, a man who played a big part in mining in Charters Towers and a former mayor of the old goldfield town. She would have reached 98 years of age next December. Both the late Mr. and Mrs. Rollston were tree lovers, and they were responsible for the planting of the fine weeping fig trees in Stubley Street, Charters Towers, in front of their home, Yelvertoft, now Blackheath Girls' College. They are probably the finest species of this tree to found anywhere in North Queensland.

By a weird coincidence (or not) the Cotonvale/Cottonvale station in Prairie Qld is currently owned by a Mr & Mrs Collins!

And there are still a couple of Rollstons in far north Qld too.

Gabrielle, it's advised not to put your email address on this open board.

As it's 7 years since the original post click on 'spiderlegs' name to send a private message. If she has kept the same email address she will be notified and still be able to reply even if she is not a paying member of GR. :-)
