I very much doubt that the 1911 census posted is the right one -that William says he has been married 17 years which means 1894 not thecorrect 1897 and the spelling is different and there are no middle initials

See earlier, William did not die until 1936 and may have married a second time in 1911 which lends credence to the idea that the marriage to Ada was annulled or divorced

Do you know when William died? I am just wondering if she got married again?

she is the sister of my 4th grandfather. i looked for marriages and then kept cross checking to see if it was right, but i found the marriage for ada but to check im correct i always look for children born to ada and william and then i got the right one. but they are proving to be hard to trace.

thankyou all in trying to solve this with me. i was at the libray and had no luck with william and ada. i found ada coles and then her marriage to william ssept 1897.i think i will try outside of oxford or divorces.

ada maud coles brn 1881 i think she could be brn illegitmate as maria and william ages.

In 1881 already posted Ada's age is given as 3 but the image clearly shows 3 months which is correct -in 1891 she is with her grandmother Maria Coles 63 Laundress b Oxford

To add another possibility -there is a marriage in 1911 Dec Q for a William J T Sheppard to either Elizabeth R Scott or Florence E Smith, so maybe there was a divorce or annulment from Ada but where is she in 1901 and where is he in 1911?
We need more info from Julie as to why she is so sure there WERE children

Can you tell us please Julie how you worked your way back to this couple in your tree? It may help us to find any children of the couple.

This death would seem to imply the birth in 1869 is the right one. His death cert may give a clue to any children?

i read all your comments, we still cant find children?? i wonder now if william was a widower and remarried to my ada coles in 1897 i found william jt sheppard died in 1936 not sure if this is him tho. and ada died 1946?? still not sure.many thanks to everyone that has now replyed. keep it coming and soon it will be cracked. tomorrow im off to the records office to look for them.
