Yes thanks Mel, I have all census records for Mary's family, just nothing after her marriage.

Still reading through everything that has been given.

So, Mel's 'Mary A' could be my Mary Ann ... I wonder why it only says 'Mary' on the birth certificate but 'mary Ann' at the Baptism ??

I guess they had a couple of weeks to think of a middle name.

From his marriage certificate, his father was James, also a carpenter

A witness was William Prowse... ?? his brother..??

Re birth date on that death reg for John.

I notice in 1841 census his birth year is c 1828 (although usually the age is rounded down, his is given as 13, so has not been 'rounded').

Also, on 1851 census it is given as c 1830 (he is 21), so that death reg for 1876 is looking more possible?

I also noticed that John was listed as '13' on the 1841 census.

So your death finding is looking more & more probable
