lol!

sounds like some of the focus groups that I've been on!

In addiiton to blue box, and grey wheelie bin for garden waste plus now (very recently) food waste, we also have a compost pile for veggie bits (uncooked), grass, leaves etc. None of those last ever go into the wheelie ...... even our neighbours have been known to put their grass clippings and fall leaves on our pile

Blue box and garbage wheelie picked up every week, garden waste wheelie every 2 weeks.

..................... some of those unaware of how to compost in an open box put cooked meats, bones etc on there.

Not good when you are a port city with a rat problem (ALL port cities have rats)

Municipal waste, such fun. ;)

I liked the guy from Edmonton who just has such a busy life, in his big house and garage in the suburbs, that when his blue box or his black box is full (we have alternate-week pickup, glass/plastic/tin and paper), well he just can't be bothered, and chucks it in the garbage. I said you know, you can have more than one box. We have three of each. Well he just wasn't going to have his garage full of recycle boxes.

Then the woman who said, during strained chit chat in the waiting room -- the older Hungarian guy had been talking about new houses in his suburb with 1000-square foot basements unused, and what a complete waste, which I agree with -- that people should have more children. Well, I said, less house. ;) More children, she said, Canada needs more population, blah blah, so I said hmm, I think we'd better save that for the focus group. ;)

So it transpires that she has six kids -- we were asked to go around the table and give our first names and name a hobby; I agreed with the facilitator about the joys of chopping veg, but said since he'd taken that, mine was genealogy. So hers was quilting, but then we had to have the six kids thrown in. JFC, six kids? And she won't put cooked food in the green bin, because there are animals. She must have pretty high IQ animals. *I* can't unlock my green bin. I'm very sure my raccoons can't. Maybe she has bears with big teeth. And besides, who throws out cooked food other than meat bones??

Me and the other two, we happened to be sitting together, who do things like hoard our dead fluroescent lightbulbs until the city comes up with some way to dispose of them, who would have liked to say the criteria for a waste/recycle program should be 0% cost, 0% convenience and 100% environment, ended up having to say convenience first, just because we know the world is made up of people like Alberta guy. ;)

Tracey's been running around summing up the problems, I see.

1. Once you've posted, the url for where you are (the http:// stuff in your address line) has the post ID rather than just the thred ID in it -- the "jump" business.

You then cannot use the page numbers at the top and bottom - the 1 2 3 etc. - to navigate within the thread. You are stuck on the page with your new post on it.

>> Solution: go back twice until you get a page that doesn't have "jump" in the URL. Refresh/reload. Then you can navigate again.

(or maybe easier: click "edit" on your new post, then click submit, and you will be back on a navigable page)

2. Once you are in a thread, you are on the "surname board" for whatever the original poster put in the "surname" line of their post. (Note: this is *not* the same as the Surname Information board -- it is the "surname board" for a particular surname within TTF.)

So if you click on Trying to Find from within a thread, you are on that sub-board of TTF. All you can see is posts where the same thing was entered on the "surname" line by the poster who started the thread.

>> Solution: click on "remove this filter" in the upper left corner.

3. If you edit a post, you are taken back to page 1 of the thread.

This doesn't need a solution. In fact, it's one way of getting out of the "jump" url and back to being able to navigate. Just click "edit" and then click submit. ;)

Those are just the functional problems, of course. The ones that no website designer with half a brain would have created -- unless maybe it was a website designer who hadn't bothered to get a clue about what the particular website in question was for and how it is used by users.

Gee whizz Quoy, can we all stop paying money to Scotlandspeople now! That could save me the train fare to Edinburgh too! And the £10 for a day's record searching. Second thoughts - no-one will know what to get me for Christmas then!!
