I am trying (without much luck), to find the marriage of George Parker to Annie Hurry. These are my fathers parents, I believe George lived in Plaistow in East London and Annie lived in Ilford or possibly Little Iford/Manor Park. Any help with this would be very much appreciated

Sorry not to have replied earlier, but I could not get into this thread.

I can only think it might be Ilford/Manor Park as that was where Annie's family lived and it was here that she was living when my father was born in 1917.

Could this be a possibility with the name misheard?

Thanks Christine , but no I don't think they were ever in Croydon and Olley is not a name anywhere in my tree.

How is Portugal at the moment,my daughter is there on holiday,we live on the Costa del Sol and weather is stillquite good.

Thanks again,

Irene

There are births for Olley/Parker (in Croydon) as well as Hurry/Parker (in Romford), so probably not that marriage (which is a pity).

patchem Report 22 Nov 2010 18:33

Could it have been Annie's second marriage?
What is her birth date?
Thanks

Evening Somerset girl, & Choccy,

I don't think that the Camberwell address is the right one as I know Annie was born in Essex. George and Edith are my father and aunt.

Choccy the 1891 & 1901 Census information is quite correct, that was my grandmothers family - the 1911 could be her but it really is the marriage as with this I cannot find the information on my grandfathers family as I without the marriage certificate for him I don't seem to be able ascertain which (of the many) George Parker is the right one. He was killed in an accident in the laundry where he work in 1921, the only clue I have so far isthat his death was registered by his Sister a Lucy Street, who at the time lived in Lee,Kent.

Sorry to have babbled on and thank you for your interest.

If all else failed you could get Lucy's marriage cert for her and George's father:

Parker Lucy Kensington 1a 375 JAS 1898.
Street William George Kensington 1a 375 JAS 1898.

I'll see if LMA has the marriage first though.

Yes it does.

Name: William George Street labourer.
Age: 21
Estimated birth year: abt 1877
Spouse Name: Lucy Parker
Spouse Age: 19
Record Type: Marriage
Marriage Date: 01 Aug 1898
Parish: St Mark, Notting Hill
County: Middlesex
Borough: Kensington and Chelsea
Father Name: Charles Street labourer.
Spouse Father Name: James Parker labourer.

Bride & groom's address: 3 Talbot Mews

Gives you sister Lucy Parker as born c1879, you know roughly when George was born from his age at death, with father James a labourer, may help to narrow things down a little .

Does the age work for your George??? I realise birthplace is not Plaistow.

Evening Kucinta,

Sory for delay in answering. I have checked the information but donot thinlk this is the right family as according to my grandfather death certificate he was 40 year old, at the time of death, which was 21st February 1921.

Thanks for your interest,

Irene

There's only one Lucy Parker/Street marriage so that has to be the correct one. Just so happens she has a brother called George. What are the odds?

Given George's age it seems likely he was previously married.

George married Annie Lockyer . Same address on 3 Talbot Mews and same witnesses.

Thanks for that, Rose. My feelings were the same, only the one Lucy Parker - Street marriage, so I feel father James as a labourer has to be right, and the 1891census info seemed to fit, apart from the lack of a Plaistow birthplace for George.

If your marriage to Annie Lockyer is the same George, which looks pretty certain to me, then maybe there is no marriage to Annie Hurry because George was still married to Annie Lockyer and not free to marry again?

Seems rather too much of a coincidence that the witnesses and address are the same on Lucy Parker's marriage and George Parker's marriage too.

Age on death cert was only as reliable as the informant.

Just looked at the image for 1891 and George is 10 so the age does fit.

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Later edit:

Just to say that in the census 1891 I found, the children of James and Mary Ann Parker were listed in descending order of age EXCEPT FOR '16 yr old' GEORGE.

Once Rose has discovered he is 10, not 16 as mistranscribed, all children including George are in descending order of age. There is already a 16 yr old son John listed in the sequence. If he and george were twins, they would surely have been listed together?

Also, in the marriage Rose found for George Parker and Annie Lockyer, his age is right for aged 10 in the census, and aged 40 at death.

Edit: I overlooked Prescilla on census 1891 who has also been mistranscribd, she is 21 on the image, not 27 as transcribed.

Kucinta,

Do you have access to the 1911 census. There's a George Parker born Notting Hill in Croydon.
