Just replied on a thread with typing explanation first and then pasting details. It worked.

AnnCardiff Report 25 Nov 2010 20:50

Help Clinic still operating on mine Sylvia!!!

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 25 Nov 2010 20:49

I have tried in vain to add info to Anne's thread on TTF re Howlett/Warren - found that if I re-typed initial part of what I was cutting and pasting it would accept it, but then when I tried that again and retyped a whole lengthy record it would not accept that - so I tried to send it by PM and that failed too - so I decided to start a new thread on her behalf and post on that and that failed - I am now going for a long lie down in a very dark room!!!!

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 25 Nov 2010 20:38

So

The Help Clinic is gone

replaced with a Help Board that gives good advice on how to sue the site ..... and acknowledges that all the help is given by volunteers

and some of the technical problems have been corrected.

I haven't yet tried to c&p information from off site ............. still ahve to see if that will work

Flick

Flick Report 25 Nov 2010 13:30

Thanks for the tip, Ann.........but what a shambles!

I certainly won't be typing it all out. Apart from anything else, that can lead to errors which may affect the research. We all know that even one letter - or number - wrong can cause havoc

I had the same problem with IGI info.....and couldn't even send it by PM.

Had to resort to direct e-mail, which rather does away with the need for GR..............

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 25 Nov 2010 13:26

did you try to paste the info Flick?

That seems to be causing the problem. Ok if type the info out!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Flick

Flick Report 25 Nov 2010 13:16

This site is getting more idiotic by the minute.

I tried to post some freebmd marriage info............I could not SUBMIT it.

Ditto with some internet details found on google.

GR are in danger of killing the site.................

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 25 Nov 2010 11:56

yup - saw that one too. Are there no experts on the other boards then????????????

Maybe people will gradually realise that there is more expertise elsewhere and come back to the usual boards. It seems a bit boring at the moment.

Ah - well, maybe I will concentrate more on my own tree for a while.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 25 Nov 2010 04:26

Mary

I tried and tried to post a new thread on Help Clinic

I literally can't get in contact with Support at GR any way ........... they suggested on 2 threads on Help that one should use the email address ....... and that failed as well. So I decided to address a thread to them asking what to do next as that board seemed to be the only place where they were interacting with members

I tried about 6 times and it would not accept it.

I did manage however to post a thread on Help with a request for help

I also failed to get a thread posted on a thread where I said why a couple of emails to GR had been returned, and in which I had included the support email address

I'm beginning to think that it really does matter what is in your post ....... when I took that email address out, the message posted.

This site is slowly driving me crazy! Even crazier than I am already!!

Ann .............

I got that message on My Account

and there is apparently another email being sent saying one of the major benefits of being a Standard member is "expert advisors on Help Clinic"

lancashireAnn Report 24 Nov 2010 22:36

yes I wondered how the census info was pasted on some threads

I have now had an email telling me as a loyal member I can have 20% discount at renewal. I wonder what the discounted rate will be by next May!

It also tells me I can look at free non-indexed birth records. When looking at the option it tells me to put in 'year of free birth'.????? Tried my own as that was not free as pre NHS!!!

Hi lancashireAnn

It's really weird isn't it - and yet I've seen other people posting c&p'd info onto the threads without any problems???

Mary

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 24 Nov 2010 17:45

thanks Mary. Just tried typing basic details instead of C & P (Ctrl C & V does not work either) and it worked.

Contrary Mary Report 24 Nov 2010 16:50

Ann of GG

I only have the problem when trying to add any c&p'd info - I couldn't even send it by pm to someone!

It was okay as long as I typed the info out, so had to wear my fingernails down to the bone and type it all out! LOL

Mary

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 24 Nov 2010 16:31

it's been happening to m all the time for days now - somee threads I can add to, others I can't - very frustrating indeed - I cosed my computr down and started again to no avail

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 24 Nov 2010 16:28

I have also had problems adding to a thread. I posted one reply then edited it. Got a page with just a reply box and page labelled page 2 of 1. When I tried to put further info on all I can get is the error message.

I get round the surnames bit by only using the back button rather than clicking on the board name.

Ahhh! So that's the place to look eh?! LOL. I never even think about looking there, perhaps I should do so. ;-))))))
